Diamant Hotel Canberra Opens

CANBARRA, Australia, May 22, 2008. This spectacular 80 room property is positioned by Lake Burley Griffin (Lake Burley Griffin was constructed in 1963 after the Molonglo River was dammed, and was named after Canberra's designer) in the heart of Canberra and forms part of the $300m mixed use re-development of the NewActon precinct. This historic and heritage listed building has undergone a sensitive $60 million high design transformation, shaping the physical and cultural heart of the precinct, creating Canberra's first luxury boutique hotel.

The hotel is immersed in a series of beautifully designed, contemporary landscaped gardens. International architectural firm Fender Katsalidis have recreated the 1920's structure adding a stunning and modern industrial foyer to the original, blending contemporary building design with heritage old world charm.

Celebrated designers SJB Interiors, worked with the generously sized guest rooms and have included customized furniture, ceilings with Florence Broadhurst inspired wallpaper, white Belgium granite work desks, Victorian bed heads, contemporary log timber side tables, mosaic tiled bathrooms and walk-in showers with rain heads.

Guest rooms are equipped with the latest security, technology and in-room entertainment expected by the savvy modern day traveller. Guests will find Bang & Olufsen televisions with cable, DVD players, fully stocked automated mini bars, fast speed internet access and MP3 connections. Soft touches are enjoyed in each room with luxurious bedding and linnen, premium toiletries by Kevin Murphy, oversized bath towels and premium plunger coffee.

The Diamant's foyer showcases extraordinary design pieces such as Corallo armchairs by the world renowned Campana Brothers, rugs by Tai Ping and Italian made Flos cocoon light fittings. Public spaces are adorned with an eclectic collection of emerging and established art works, including sculptures, installations, contemporary and indigenous paintings.

The Diamant Lounge Bar, in collaboration with Perrier Jouet is located in the hotel lobby. Guests will find themselves surrounded by an intimate library where they can enjoy the world's finest champagne in the warmth of a log fireplace, a classic collection of ambient music and complimentary wireless internet.

The NewActon village plays host to Du Jour Caf'e, Flint Dining Room and Bar and Parlour Wine Room. Soma Day Spa, a Pilate's studio, and an onsite gymnasium are also located within the hotel premises.
