. October 14, 2008

MARCH 10, 2008. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) has established a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship for an exceptional employee of a PATA member organisation.

Commencing during academic year 2008/09, the scholarship will support one full-time student on full stipend for three years of study.

Applications are welcome from individuals who hold a Master degree in hospitality and tourism management or closely related fields with a significant thesis/dissertation research component, and have had at least one year's industry work experience; or individuals who are Master degree holders in other areas with a significant thesis/dissertation research component, and who are currently working or have worked in the hotel and tourism industry for not less than one year.

Prof Haiyan Song, Chairman of the SHTM Research Committee said: "This degree programme aims to provide a theoretical and research base to prepare graduates for educational and research positions in the hotel and tourism industry."

He added: "The edge of the programme is that individual programmes of study are planned according to the background and interests of students, and such flexibility allows students to meet their personal and professional objectives."

The intellectual and supportive environment fostered by SHTM encourages academic staff and students to conduct collaborative research and disseminate their efforts through scholarly publications and conference presentations.

Prof Kaye Chon, Director of SHTM, said: "The School's faculty members have wide interests and knowledge in tourism, hotel and foodservice management, which enable them to supervise a variety of research projects.

"Students will benefit fully from the School's international and multi-cultural environment. They will also be able to make positive contributions to the growth and enhancement of hospitality and tourism knowledge."

Interested individuals can submit their applications to Prof Haiyan Song via e-mail [email protected].

Applicants should include a letter from their employer to verify that they are employed by a PATA member organisation.
