The Embers Hotel Appoints New General Manager and Executive Chef
The Embers Hotel, Blowing Rock's newest boutique hotel nestled in the enchanting Blue Ridge Mountains, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new key members to its leadership team: General Manager Ben McKethan and Executive Chef Matthew Betlach. Together, the two will play pivotal roles in enhancing guest experiences at the hotel.
Ben McKethan, a seasoned expert in the hospitality industry, has been appointed as the new general manager of The Embers. A High Country native, McKethan graduated from Appalachian State University in 2003 with a degree in hospitality and tourism management. He brings a wealth of local experience from his previous work at various Blowing Rock properties, including Meadowbrook Inn, Chetola Resort, and The Inn At Ragged Garden, as well as his experience with renowned brands like Marrott and Hilton. McKethan's extensive background in driving operational excellence across diverse properties, coupled with his involvement on local tourism boards and the Blowing Rock Chamber, makes him the perfect person to lead guest services at the hotel.
Matthew Betlach joins The Embers team as the new executive chef. Betlach brings close to 20 years of culinary management and fine dining experience, having started his career after graduating with a bachelor's degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University in 2006. He has honed his skills at esteemed hotel restaurant properties such as The Ritz Carlton, Marriott, and the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort. Chef Betlach's responsibilities will include overseeing all culinary operations, menu creation, food quality, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience for guests. Under his leadership and guidance, the kitchen team at Hearth is expected to deliver outstanding service and exceed guest expectations.
"We are thrilled to welcome Ben and Matthew to the team," said Stephen Barker, Founder and CEO of Catellus Group. "I have no doubt that they will take the hotel and restaurant to new heights and leave a lasting impression on guests."
Opened in April, The Embers Hotel has 36 rooms and an on-site restaurant, Hearth. The hotel - developed by Catellus Group and managed by Hay Creek Hotels - is the latest addition to Blowing Rock's hospitality scene, offering a premier destination for travelers throughout the Southeast.
The Embers Hotel's restaurant, Hearth, serves to honor the region's changing seasons and flavors found throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. With its roots in Appalachian and Southern cuisine, Hearth offers guests and the local community a place to gather and create memories, enjoying daily a la carte brunch and dinner with fresh flavors and locally grown ingredients. The Hearth Bar blends refined cuisine with the region's finest wines, craft beers and creative cocktails.
"We are committed to sourcing the best talent to drive business performance here at the hotel," said Gary Sims, CEO of Hay Creek Hotels. "By bringing Matthew and Ben on board, we aim to improve efficiency and ensure seamless operations."
