Stantec Redesigns the Historic San Juan Hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach

. March 23, 2016

MIAMI, FL. March 23, 2016 - renovation projects in South Florida, has redesigned the interiors of the historic, boutique San Juan Hotel located on 1680 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.

Renowned architect Henry Hohauser originally built the three-story, 76-room hotel in 1948. The guest rooms, public spaces and pool area have been refurbished with a fresh sophisticated nautical design.

Design inspirations stemmed from the hotel's original postwar modern style with nautical influences reminiscent of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Warm woods with vintage brass and rope details, luxurious marble, and touches of navy and burlap define the interior design of the hotel.

“Through design, we create experiences that are truly memorable for guests from the minute they walk into the hotel,” said interior designer Susan LaFleur, associate, Stantec.

The nautical theme begins in the lobby with custom designed teak furniture adorned with glass dome lighting intertwined with rope and dozens of seashell art prints. A unique brass fixture featuring a modern take on a fishing net serves as a room divider. The focal point in the lobby is the SJH Lounge with 100 brass light pendants draping the bar, and wood and brass stools.

The guestrooms resemble a sailboat cabin with white bedding and navy monogrammed pillows and navy and white artwork of different marine life. Furnishings include handcrafted wooden furniture, headboards and lamps all with brass details.

The hotel pool and patio were renovated and converted into a tropical oasis - with palm trees, lush landscaping, and a new zen garden with daybeds.

Stantec's Miami office was also behind the renovations of neighboring hotels on Collins Avenue such as the Gale South Beach, Shelborne Hotel, Aloft South Beach and The Hall. The firm continues its reign of hospitality design with the upcoming restorations of the Berkeley Shore and Shore Club in Miami Beach and will begin construction of the Yotel Hotel & Residences in Downtown Miami in September 2016.
