Maureen Keenan Named GM at Casino Aztar in Evansville
MARCH 30, 2007. Maureen A. Keenan, for 12 years the head of finance and administration at Casino Aztar in Evansville, IN, has been named General Manager of the casino, according to an announcement by William J. Yung, CEO of Columbia Entertainment. Keenan becomes only the second GM of the Casino since it opened in 1995 and will be the only woman currently heading a major Indiana casino.
Prior to assuming her new position, Keenan was Vice President of Finance and Administration and part of the management team headed by predecessor Jim Brown who recently stepped down. The two executives helped open the property in 1995.
"We were sorry to lose Jim Brown," said Yung. "He is a talented and able executive whose leadership was essential to the development of Casino Aztar's business. We wish him every success in his new endeavors.
"But by the same token, we are fortunate to have Maureen in position to take over," said Yung. "She knows property operations inside and out. She has been integral to our compliance programs. She has a strong sense of the community. And she is a proven business manager. We are confident that Casino Aztar will continue to flourish under her direction."
Keenan's career in the lodging and gaming industry spans 24 years. She joined the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City in 1983 and over the next decade assumed increasingly responsible positions in accounting and finance, eventually being named casino Controller in 1994. She earned her bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Charleston in 1981 and spent two years with Diversified Human Resource Group in Houston before moving to the east coast casino.
Keenan has a masters degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix and has studied accounting at Atlantic Community College in New Jersey and auditing at Stockton State College, also in New Jersey. A member of Who's Who Society of Professionals, Keenan is married and the mother of two children.
