June 20, 2014 - First Hospitality Group, Inc. (FHG), and City Properties Group, LLC, announced today that they will host a “Topping Out” event to celebrate the installation of the roof at the new Hilton Garden Inn Downtown at Clay Commons— signifying the final phase of construction for the hotel slated to open to the public in October. The private event for project partners and local officials is scheduled from noon to 1:00 p.m. (EST) Thursday, June 19, and will be hosted at the adjoining Henry Clay Building at 604 S. Third Street in Louisville, KY.

The eight-story, 121,700-square-foot Hilton Garden Inn Downtown at Clay Commons will add 162 guest rooms to the popular district as well as a rooftop bar and restaurant that will feature unique food and beverage concepts, an open air patio and meeting space.

“The construction of the Hilton Garden Inn represents the culmination of an exciting year for South Fourth Street,” said Bill Weyland, managing director of City Properties Group. “Following on the heels of the renovation of Guthrie Coke Lofts, the opening of the Mercury Ballroom, the relocation of Volunteers for America, and the addition of several independent retailers, the momentum of South Fourth continues to build with the 'Topping Out' of the Hilton Garden Inn and announcement of its rooftop bar and restaurant.”

The hotel will collaborate with the adjoining Henry Clay building to function as a mini convention center, connecting support services and overnight room rentals with the event and meeting spaces used to host more than 275 events and theatre performances each year.

The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown at Clay Commons is a joint venture between Louisville, KY-based City Properties Group, LLC and Rosemont, Ill.-based First Hospitality Group, Inc. FHG has previously developed four existing Hilton Garden Inn hotels, including the 127-room Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown hotel which was an extensive adaptive reuse project on the historic Loyalty Building. In addition to being part of the development team, FHG will serve as the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown at Clay Commons' operator.

“We are excited about bringing the Hilton Garden Inn brand to downtown Louisville,” said Stephen Schwartz, CEO of FHG. “This hotel is an exceptional facility with a relationship to the Henry Clay and will present a truly unique rooftop entertainment venue—the first of its kind in this marketplace.”
