Florida's 100-room Boutique Gates of Key West Set to Open in August 2014

. May 20, 2014

Key West, Florida - May 20, 2014 - The Gates of Key West, a new independent hotel with 100 rooms, is opening on the island of Key West, Florida in August 2014. Combining modern design, organic touches, urban chic and Floridian flare, The Gates will capture the verve of Hemingway's "old school Key West" with authentic island ambiance, residential-style interiors, regionally-inspired dining and drinking, and a lively pool deck for guests and locals alike.

The Gates tapped into interior designer Andrea Henzlik of AHD in Atlanta, Georgia for her extensive experience designing interiors for private residences. Her eye for personalized spaces is exactly what the hotel sought to achieve a minimalist, yet convivial destination that is culturally connected to the island and will set the stage for boutique hotels in Key West.

"The challenge that was presented to me was to create a space that will be functional but not fit into a 'mold' of traditional hotel brand standards," shares Henzlik. "My approach was to think outside of the box and fashion interiors that are inspired by ocean homes, with monochromatic minimalism, natural materials and textures, and splashes of color."

The Gates' common areas will showcase neutral tones infused with bright accent colors to highlight original photography exhibited throughout by award-winning local photographer Jorge de la Torriente of De La Gallery. A wall of pecky cypress and a 10-foot community table will dress the lobby, along with a variety of textural elements. The guest rooms will display a modern yet rustic vibe with exposed whitewashed beams, custom platform beds of hand-washed cypress, petrified wood tables imported from Bali, and hand-selected rugs from Marrakesh.

A 2,000-square foot deck with an adjacent long-boarded Bar will surround the hotel's 71' X 22' -foot swimming pool, setting the scene for relaxed afternoons and festive evenings of live entertainment. Whether stretched out on chaise lounges or tucked in the privacy of a cabana, poolside will be where the action is at The Gates.

Located on the pool deck, the hotel Bar will offer regionally-inspired small-plate items and snacks throughout the day, with cues taken from Cuban and traditional food truck fare. The hotel Bar will also offer rum drinks, top-shelf liquors, craft beers on tap, and wines by the bottle or glass.

The Gates of Key West will offer three guest room categories to choose from, which include The Standard, The View and The Terrace guest rooms. The Terrace guest rooms are situated around the hotel's pool, complete with private decks. Each stay comes complete with complimentary WiFi access and moderately-priced European-style continental breakfast with Cuban coffee.

The Gates' location at the point of entry of Key West on North Roosevelt Boulevard will afford easy access to everything, including Duval Street, Mallory Square and myriad attractions throughout Old Town. Guests staying at the Key West hotel will be able to indulge in ocean-view runs or ask the hotel's concierge, dubbed "Island Host," to arrange yoga, Pilates and spa services from area studios. Other activities include renting bicycles and scooters from the hotel, or hopping on a complimentary ride to the island's favorites. The Island Host can also set up local adventures including seaplane tours, catamaran sailing, parasailing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, eco-tours, golf and more.
