Scandic Signs New Airport Hotel in Bergen, Norway

. May 16, 2014

May 16, 2014 - Scandic At Bergen Airport Flesland, Scandic will build what will be one of Western Norway's largest business and convention hotels. This will further reinforce Scandic's position as the leading hotel company in the Nordics.

With the acquisition of Rica Hotels earlier this year, Scandic has a total of approximately 230 hotels in eight countries. Recently, Scandic opened two new hotels - Scandic Ørnen in Bergen and Scandic Stavanger City - and a third, Scandic Flesland Airport, will be opening in 2017.

"We are today the largest hotel company in the Nordics, and we look forward to providing our guests with a growing selection of hotels and locations. To continue growing by establishing large hotels in the most desirable locations is part of our growth strategy. Scandic Flesland Airport is a good example of this, where we are strengthening our portfolio further on the Norwegian market," says Frank Fiskers, President & CEO of Scandic.

There is currently a need for large and efficient meeting and conference facilities in Bergen. Scandic Flesland Airport will meet this need. The hotel will have more than 25 meeting rooms - the largest being 1,000 square meters with a capacity of 800 people. The location is ideal as it is in close proximity to the new airport terminal and the planned business center.

"With the new airport terminal, Flesland will be an even more important hub in Norway, and therefore this is the right place to build a major new hotel in Norway. The site is located right by the airport terminal and within walking distance of the upcoming light rail station. It is therefore a perfect location for an airport hotel with large, open and effective meeting rooms and conference facilities, which are in short supply in Bergen today", says Svein Arild Steen-Mevold, Country Vice President, Scandic Norway.

In addition to a large variety of meeting rooms, Scandic Flesland Airport will offer a restaurant, bar, and gym. Guests will also have access to a range of service products, such as the mobile solution online check-out, which has been available at all Scandic hotels in the Nordic region since autumn. Scandic Flesland will be created with interesting design solutions and will be an environmentally-sound building with geo-energy and solar collectors for heating and cooling.
