153-key Hotel G to Open Q2 2014, Completing Conversion of an Historic San Francisco Property

. February 28, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - February 28, 2014 - This spring, downtown San Francisco will debut a bit of something old and something very new with the opening of Hotel G. Located on the corner of Geary and Mason Street near the city's Union Square neighborhood, the historic hotel will open after an extensive redesign to all 13 floors and 153 guest rooms.

"San Francisco is an intellectual city with history and modern-day sophistication and our end goal is for Hotel G to channel each of those qualities," said Steve Rizzo, General Manager. "The guest experience will emphasize a comfortable lifestyle with a design that is simple yet functional and complements the building's unique architectural elements."

A perfect home base for downtime between work and play, guest rooms at Hotel G will welcome leisure and business travelers with a natural aesthetic, calming design and relaxed accommodations. Fog colored walls, wood finishes and earthy fabrics and textiles contrast with clean lines, pops of color and fair-trade accents and art. The furniture pays homage to the hotel's past with pieces ranging from Victorian settees, vintage schoolhouse chairs, banker's lamps and mid-century writing desks, while the amenities honor today's modern necessities with flat-screen SMART TVs, docking stations, Nespresso coffee makers and complimentary WiFi.

Downstairs, the lobby will engage guests with an element of surprise and a modern look and feel. Frosted glass walls, patchwork tiled floors and two oversized metallic reception desks will be featured underneath double heighted ceilings; a vintage courthouse bench and plush, colorful armchairs will provide nooks to congregate or relax.

"Much of the emphasis with the hotel transformation has been about staying true to the original design of the building to reveal what's underneath rather than adding more layers and over-designing," said Rizzo. "Our hope is that our guests appreciate the juxtaposition between old and new and enjoy the laid-back, authentic San Francisco vibe that is at the core of Hotel G."

Additional hotel amenities will include a second floor gym and nearby meeting room for casual get-togethers or formal board meetings.

Originally built in 1909 as The Fielding hotel, the building featured 112 rooms across eight floors before the additional five floors were added in 1939. During this transformation, many of the original hotel features will remain intact, including the cast iron staircase in guest corridor, wood and concrete flooring in all the rooms and hallways, and the building's original, exterior façade.
