The George, a Kimpton Hotel on Capitol Hill Completes $5 Million Renovation

. February 21, 2014

February 21, 2014 - Kimpton's Hotel George, a favorite boutique hotel for Capitol Hill's movers and shakers, announces the completion of a multi-million dollar renovation and redesign. The renovation of the iconic Washington, D.C. hotel encompasses all 139 guest rooms and suites, hallway corridors, and elevator banks, which will now flow seamlessly with the artful, contemporary design of the hotel's recently refreshed living room, gallery, and meeting spaces.

“We're thrilled with the results of the renovation and so are our guests. The new rooms are modern, upscale, and will keep us on the map as the premier hotel for business and leisure on Capitol Hill,” said Ben Timashenka, director of operations for Kimpton's Washington, D.C. hotels.

CBT, a Boston-based multi-disciplinary interior, architecture and urban design firm specializing in luxury hospitality design, interior architecture, and urban design, was hired to re-imagine The George's design and capture the presidential spirit of the hotel Starting with the guest rooms, the redesign features a sophisticated, crisp color palette with rich accents of warm blues, browns, and beige. Whimsical touches with contemporary references to American history abound, reflected not only in the parchment and ink graphic wallpaper depicting George Washington's handwritten inaugural address and custom accent pillows based on his famous uniform, but also in the bathrooms, which now feature custom artwork of Washington's beloved Mount Vernon residence and polished chrome candelabra wall sconces reminiscent of the era.

Business travelers will appreciate the new desks, which are a modern take on old-world style writing desks with antiqued oak surfaces that provide ample room to spread out. New ergonomic Eames-inspired chairs and polished chrome reading lamp round out the room's workspace. The George has also added new pull-out sofa beds to several oversized queen and king guest rooms, giving travelers a comfortable sitting area on which to rest and recharge, as well as providing an additional bed for families visiting the Nation's Capital.

The hotel's premier guest room, The Presidential Suite, also received stylish updates including new furniture and an accent rug illustrating Washington's inaugural address in the separate sitting area, custom impressionist-style portraits of George and Martha Washington, a modern interpretation of traditional four-poster king bed with a gold tufted headboard, and a luxurious new free-standing soaking tub and marble shower with dual curved black marble vanities.

The George, a Kimpton Hotel is located at 15 E Street, N.W., in Washington, D.C. and is certainly one of Washington, D.C.'s most iconic hotels. For additional information, visit www.hotelgeorge.com or call (202) 347-4200.
