Main Street Hospitality Group Announces Development of 45 Room Hotel In Downtown Pittsfield

Pittsfield's 1st Boutique Hotel

. February 18, 2014

PITTSFIELD, MA - February 18, 2014 - Main Street Hospitality Group announced the development of a new hotel on North Street in downtown Pittsfield, Mass. Hotel on North will be a 45 room, elegant property featuring an eclectic mix of furnishings and decor to reflect its heritage as an iconic early 20th century department store in the center of downtown Pittsfield. Hotel on North will include two restaurants; a small media space for groups, and two other smaller meeting facilities to accommodate intimate group meetings, as well as a private space for events. The property will be managed by Main Street Hospitality Group, a management company based out of The Red Lion Inn, located in Stockbridge, Mass.

Hotel on North will be located at the center of Pittsfield's downtown revitalization efforts and is within walking distance to a variety of restaurants, galleries, performing arts spaces and other area attractions. “We are very excited about working with Main Street Hospitality on this project, which we hope will help revitalize the city that we love,” said Laurie Tierney, Hotel on North owner and developer. Hotel on North, a locally operated, non-chain boutique hotel, will join the ongoing redevelopment of North Street (recently named one of Massachusetts' first Cultural Districts in 2012) and serve as a destination spot for business and leisure travelers as well as local residents.

With extensive management experience, MSHG is excited to expand their organization and once again partner with the Tierney family. Currently, Main Street Hospitality Group also manages The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass. and Elm Street Market on Main Street in Stockbridge, Mass. “We have looking at locations in Pittsfield with the Tierney family over the past five years. We are excited to have found the perfect building,” said Main Street Hospitality Group Chairman, Nancy Fitzpatrick.

Located at the former site of The Besse-Clarke Company department store that operated from 1910-1994, this historic building will offer a unique and distinct experience for travelers. The original buildings, known as the Burns Blocks (1883) and the Burns New Block (1890), were built by James M. Burns, a local merchant who established a home furnishing store in Pittsfield in the late 1870s. Both buildings represent the northward expansion of Pittsfield's central business district in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with both buildings named to the National Register of Historic Places.

Hotel on North is also an adaptive reuse of a historic building; its design will capture the sense of Pittsfield's historic past, with an eye towards its promising future. The exterior of the building will remain intact, while the interior will be adorned with a vintage motif. With a careful attention to detail, the decorations and furnishings throughout the property will showcase an appreciation for historical accuracy, as well as express individuality and originality. Hotel on North intends to tell a unique story that will keep visitors coming back time after time.

Hotel on North is scheduled to open in summer of 2015. For more information and developments of the project, please visit the Hotel on North's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hotelonnorth.
