HFTP Members Now Receive Discounts on AICPA Ethics Courses

. December 06, 2013

AUSTIN, TEXAS, USA - December 6, 2013 - In November, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) announced to its members that a partnership was formed with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in a move that expands the association's educational resources.

Members are now eligible to receive a discounted rate on pre-approved ethics coursesoffered by AICPA. These courses will also satisfy the CHAE and CHTP designee educational maintenance ethics requirement which starts for some designees on January 1, 2014. The courses include: Selected Topics in Professional Ethics, Cost and Return: Professional Ethics in Business, Professional Ethics: 2012-2013 Update and Refresher and Professional Ethics for CPAs in Business.

HFTP offers two professional certifications, the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE) and the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP). Both certifications are held to the high standards of a Code of Ethics that provides the foundation of the personal and professional competency the designations identify. Certified individuals are required to be familiar with the code and consult it prior to acting on ethical issues.

“HFTP considers our ethics policy to be a benchmark for the high standards of our CHAE and CHTP certificate holders,” said Frank Wolfe, CAE, CEO of HFTP. “The partnership with the AICPA will help our members uphold these high standards.”

In order to demonstrate their continuing interest and proficiency, designees are required to submit a minimum of 50 educational maintenance points every two years in order to retain their certification. Of the 50 points, at least four hours must pertain to ethics in their forthcoming cycles.

The CHAE and CHTP designations are a part of the many ways that HFTP is striving to lead the industry with education sources and resources. HFTP provides members with superior networking opportunities, industry-leading events, unique educational opportunities, and other essential resources for professional growth.

Several new developments have been made to better serve HFTP members and the industry. These include a frequent and expanded selection of ProLinks webinars, with opportunities in various time zones to accommodate industry professionals around the globe. Further development of the Global Hospitality Accounting Common Practices (GHACP) is in progress. This searchable database will house detailed operating financial reporting practices used at lodging properties around the world, along with guidance on industry standards, and commentary and analysis from industry experts. Additionally, HFTP has extended office hours at the global headquarters office to accommodate professionals across the globe.
