$9 Million Re-design at Ocean Drive's South Beach Marriott Beachfront Nears Completion

. October 31, 2013

MIAMI, FL - October 31, 2013 - On May 1, 2013, South Beach Marriott, a boutique beachfront hotel in the much sought after South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood of Miami Beach, began a six-month, $9 million redesign. Jeffrey Beers International (JBI), an award-winning hospitality design and architecture firm, is spearheading the design project, which is slated for completion by the end of this year.

The renovation is intended to introduce a livable yet luxurious, residential feel, with high quality finishes, all new hard and soft goods, and attention to the smallest details. Known for projects including The Cove Atlantis, Fifty St. James in London and The 40/40 Club in New York, Jeffrey Beers found inspiration for the design in the hotel's prime oceanfront address on Ocean Drive.

"Our goal was to embrace the hotel's striking beachfront location by bringing the freshness of the sea inside," said Jeffrey Beers. "We did this by carefully curating a selection of modern, custom finishes that help create an open and light-filled space while also establishing an inviting, high-end residential atmosphere."

The design will utilize a color scheme that features a crisp palette of fresh whites complemented by soft neutral grays to evoke a luxurious and light atmosphere. Accents of orange and brown will bring warmth to the guestrooms and stylized, color-processed photographs reflect the feel of beachfront vistas. Surfboards inspired the sinuous custom built-ins, rendered in whitewashed oak and white lacquer. Modern amenities including integrated LED lights and large, flat screen televisions, balance out the design.

Bathrooms will be transformed to create a more expansive and luxurious space. New glass showers will replace existing tubs and feature rainforest showerheads and handheld shower fixtures, while porcelain tile with a marbled pattern and narrow slivers of white marble tile will replace floor and wall coverings, respectively.

The Concierge Lounge will be reinvented with the addition of a buffet island centered among sky-blue banquettes and soft grey lounge chairs. Located on the 11th floor, its two spacious terraces with new high-top tables and plush outdoor couches, provide a place to lounge and enjoy the expansive Miami Beach and cityscape views. The transformed lounge will also be offered as a new venue for groups to host meetings, weddings and other cocktail functions.

The transformation will be carried through on every floor with refreshed elevator foyers as well as new, chic furnishings and fixtures for both Lobby levels.

General Manager, David Cronin, 42, who joined the South Beach Marriott in November 2012, has been overseeing the $9 million renovation. Minimizing impact for hotel guests during the renovation is Mr. Cronin's top priority. During the guest room beautification, the hotel continues to operate as usual with no visual impact on guests. All hotel amenities are available throughout the process including the pool, spa services, fitness center, dining at Deco Blue and Starbucks.

"It is business as usual at the hotel during the renovation with a focus on maintaining guest satisfaction," Cronin said. "We are keeping the community involved and updated on the construction process through traditional and social media updates and look forward to unveiling our completed new design at the end of the year."
