October 18, 2013 - The Steigenberger Hotel Group is to retain its dual presence in Jena. Following the expiration of the current lease arrangements at the end of the year, the Maxx Hotel will stay open under the terms of a new management agreement concluded between Steigenberger and the new owners of the property, the provisions of which include a guarantee that all staff will keep their jobs. The owners are also planning extensive investments for the coming year.

The closure of the hotel, which is located on Stauffenbergstraße, was announced in the summer after it emerged that the new owners wished to put the premises to an alternative use.

"We always made it clear that we were interested in the continuing operation of the site as a hotel," stated Jörg Schiffmann, Vice President Operations for Steigenberger Business Hotels. "This makes us even more pleased that Maxx Hotel will stay within our portfolio under the new contract". Jena is a successful hotel location for Steigenberger. The Maxx Hotel opened in 1993 and is the largest in the city with 220 rooms.

Since 1999, the Frankfurt-based hotel group has also had a further establishment in Jena in the form of the elegant Atrium-Hotel Steigenberger Esplanade on Carl-Zeiss-Platz, which was fully renovated in 2012 and now presents itself as an ultra-modern First Class Hotel in the city centre.

Steigenberger Hotels AG is based in Frankfurt am Main and is one of Europe's leading hotel groups. Its portfolio currently contains 98 hotels in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Egypt and China, including 14 establishments that are under construction or in the planning phase. The umbrella brand Steigenberger Hotel Group includes the two brands Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts (individual First Class and Deluxe Hotels) and InterCityHotel (hotels in the upper mid-range category located in the direct vicinity of transport hubs such as railway stations and airports).
