New Salt House Inn Elevates Style and Service in Provincetown, MA

. April 03, 2013

PROVINCETOWN, MA - April 3, 2013 - When Salt House Inn opens in May 2013, it will redefine the classic bed and breakfast with a fresh, contemporary approach, and deliver a new level of style and service to the heart of Provincetown, MA. Each of the fifteen guestrooms is individually designed to evoke the feeling of a breezy beach cottage and capture the history and charm of this seaside destination located at the tip of Cape Cod.

Salt House Inn offers relaxed and accessible luxury with warm service and thoughtful amenities that appeal to today's traveler, including well-appointed bathrooms, plush bedding, complimentary Wi-Fi and on-site parking. “Kevin and I have been vacationing in Provincetown for the last few years and noticed a void for stylish, yet affordable accommodations that appeal to today's traveler,” said David Bowd, Co-Owner, Salt House Inn. “It is with this mindset that we created Salt House Inn; a property that bridges its historic setting with modern amenities and chic decor.”

“Using our own travel experiences as a guide, we focused on the amenities people value in hotels, such as custom mattresses, luxury bedding and great showers. We combined those with the service and intimate surroundings of an inn to create something truly unique. After looking at every detail, we eliminated many of the traditional “hotel rules,” such as a set check-in time. Instead, we communicate with our guests to individually tailor their stay and make it effortless.” said Bowd.

The charming 19th century building has had a long and storied past. The property was originally compromised of cottages for salt mine workers and then grew into a guesthouse that most recently operated as Dexter's Inn. Today Salt House Inn has been completely renovated and modernized. The focal point of the mainly white guest rooms are the signature “wall of curiosities” that feature curated collections of vintage art and found objects reflecting the flavor and heritage of the region. All rooms offer spacious bathrooms with spa-like elements such as walk-in showers and rain shower heads, as well as natural bath products from C.O. Bigelow and the LA-based, all natural and sustainable Further brand. For those wanting the ultimate in secluded luxury, the generously-sized Loft Suite with soaring vaulted ceilings, offers a relaxed sitting area and a claw foot tub at the foot of the plush king bed.

Each morning guests head to the breakfast room for a gourmet feast of homemade pastries, savory treats, yogurt, and granola prepared by Co-Owner, the inn's interior designer and Chef, Kevin O'Shea. The room's communal table lends itself to socializing while a few cozy nooks are perfect for those who prefer to dine on their own. The newly landscaped grounds offer al fresco dining, an outdoor lounge, and a large second floor sun terrace.

“My vision for Salt House Inn was a modern interpretation of traditional colonial aesthetics, mixed with the feeling of a breezy Cape Cod beach cottage”, said Kevin O'Shea, Co-Owner, Salt House Inn. “The design is stylish and charming yet inviting and comfortable.”

The Inn is the ideal collaboration between hotel industry innovator David Bowd and interior designer Kevin O'Shea, who purchased the property in May 2011. David, originally from the English village of Salt, which partly inspired the Inn's name, has been in the hotel business for 30 years, including several years with Ian Schrager and most recently Andre Balazs Properties where he currently holds the title of Chief Operating Officer. Kevin received a B.F.A. in Interior Architecture from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design in 2006, and began a career in hotel design with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for the Le Meridien brand and then joined Morgans Hotel Group. He opened his own interior design studio, Kevin O'Shea Designs in 2009. The couple, who split their time between New York City and Provincetown, resides at The Martin House, one of the oldest (and supposedly most haunted) homes in Provincetown, to which they have also given new life through a recent thoughtful, authentic renovation.
