. March 19, 2013

March 19, 2013 - Magnuson Hotels, the world's largest independent hotel group, announced today the complete rebranding of the Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center at Oyster Point.

Formerly the Omni Newport News, the hotel will upgrade its local, regional and national market to attract business, group and leisure travelers via an affiliation with Magnuson Hotels' global portfolio of nearly 2,000 hotels.

Corporate, educational, government and leisure travelers will appreciate this 182-room facility located just 4 blocks from shopping, dining and entertainment at Oyster Point Square Newport News. The Stratford University Newport News Campus is just minutes away and Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis Army Base are a 20 minute drive.

Guests of the Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center at Oyster Point will enjoy free wireless internet access, indoor pool, fitness center, a full business center and over 15,000 square feet of meeting space to accommodate groups of up to 800. All guest rooms include hair dryer, mini-fridge, alarm clock/radio, free local calls, cable TV, electronic door locks and iron with board.

Future expansion plans include a new wing with 220 guest rooms, a parking garage, and an indoor water park. The project is estimated at $35 million and is expected to create 500 jobs for the local economy.

"The year round-water park will be open to the general public, which is not something typically offered in the market," said Ray Patel, owner of the Magnuson Hotel.

“We are proud to welcome Ray Patel and his entire staff, and are fully committed to increasing their property visibility and reservations,” stated Thomas Magnuson, CEO of Magnuson Worldwide.

As a Magnuson Hotels affiliate, the Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center at Oyster Point is a member of the Magnuson Hotels Premier Collection, an elite portfolio of the highest quality hotels and locations represented by Magnuson Worldwide.

The Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center at Oyster Point will receive complete global brand representation without the costs and requirements of franchise brand affiliation. It will expand its business through Magnuson Hotels' massive hotel reservation network including 650,000 GDS travel agents, all global corporate accounts, over 2,000 internet booking channels such as Global Hotel Exchange, Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline, and all major airlines websites.
