Buccaneer St. Croix Resort Debuts VIP Suite

. June 08, 2012

June 8, 2012 - The Buccaneer resort has debuted a new VIP suite that raises the bar on luxury hotel accommodations in St. Croix. Called the Ficus Suite, the two-bedroom, three-bath spread is steps from the beach and has direct Caribbean Sea views.

Built and designed by New Orleans-based design firm Lisambiance working with a local architect and contractors, the suite is an airy, art-filled space with two ensuite master bedrooms, foyer/reception area, full kitchen, combined living and dining area, and a third full bathroom. The master bedrooms open to a spacious, elegant patio furnished for al fresco dining and lounging.

Marble floors, vaulted wood ceilings, mahogany furnishings mixed with contemporary pieces, and original art and accessories set the stage for groups of up to eight people, with king-size poster beds in the two master bedrooms and convertible sofas in both the foyer and living room. Ideal for family vacations, girlfriend getaways, or celebrities with their entourages, the suite is also suitable for board retreats, with one master bedroom accommodating the VIP, and the other converted into a board room or hospitality suite.

The Ficus Suite's color scheme is inspired by the pinks, oranges, greens and earth hues in the costumes of Mocko Jumbie stilt dancers. Walls are adorned by bold, large-scale giclee prints on canvas created from photographs of local scenery by Steve Simonsen. Wide-screen panel TVs are in every room.

Spa-like master bathrooms boast high-end fixtures, soaking whirlpool tubs and separate showers. The full kitchen is diminutive in size but ingeniously includes every appliance necessary - a full-sized fridge, mini-dishwasher, and an oven and range. Handsome shuttered cabinets, granite countertops, and full sets of cookware, china and utensils complete the set-up.

Until December 16, 2012, the Ficus Suite is $1,220 per night. The rate includes a complimentary breakfast buffet each morning; use of snorkels, kayaks and floating mats at the beach; scuba lessons; general manager's cocktail reception (Tuesdays), and a nature and history tour of the resort.

A slide show of the Ficus Suite, as well as its art collection, is featured on The Buccaneer's Facebook page.

Accommodations are located in the signature pink Great House, on two of three beaches, and on ridges overlooking the sea, gently-rolling golf greens and acclaimed tennis center. Two swimming pools, three restaurants, a renovated spa and fitness center, and a designer boutique are other highlights of the self-contained destination resort.

Founded in 1947 as an 11-room inn, The Buccaneer is recognized by the National Trust as a Historic Hotel of America and celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2012 as the Caribbean's most historic hotel.
