Jalousie Plantation Appoints New Director of Health and Wellness

. June 04, 2010

June 4, 2010 - The Jalousie Plantation Sugar Beach on the scenic Eastern Caribbean island of St Lucia has appointed Julia Leone as its new Director of Health and Wellness.

Ms Leone joins Jalousie having spent the last thirty years working in a number of international spa retreats and training establishments around the world, most recently The BodyHoliday at LeSport, St Lucia.

She has just been awarded the International Tutor of the Year by CIBTAC—a London-based international examination board, specialising in awarding diplomas in beauty, complementary therapies and well-being. CIBTAC was originally developed as the Education section of BABTAC, (British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) but has grown to become a globally recognised educational establishment. She will receive her award at a gala presentation ceremony in London later this month.

In her new role, Ms Leone will oversee the development of The Jalousie Plantation's new Rainforest Spa, due to open in September this year, complete with treehouse treatment rooms tucked into the rainforest at the base of the World Heritage-listed Petit Piton.

“We are currently in the process of selecting the international product line for the new spa, but should be making the final decision very soon,” Ms Leone said. “We are looking at brands that are wholly organic and which are very treatment oriented to achieve maximum results.

“We will also be continuing the all natural rituals that the Jalousie spa has become known for including our signature Sulphur Seduction which harnesses all of the benefits of the nearby Sulphur Springs and volcano, as well as the all-natural body scrubs and wraps which utilize fruits and herbs grown right on the estate. We will also be introducing an all-new bamboo massage based on the techniques of Swedish massage but utilizes bamboo sticks in deep revitalizing movements,” she said.

Facilities at the new spa include a couple's tree house treatment room, six further multi-use single treehouse treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure room, specialist skin treatment room, a hairdressing salon, an al fresco relaxation area open to the Petit Piton, reception area, shower and locker rooms, and a special earthen steam room warmed by mineral-rich volcanic spring water.

All of the new facilities are being constructed from natural materials such as bamboo and Campeche with field grass thatching. The work is being done by local carpenters and craftsmen from nearby villages such as Fond Gens Libre, Choiseul and Soufriere using traditional Amerindian building techniques which speak to the island's history and its earliest settlers.

Ms Leone added: “This is such an exciting time to be joining The Jalousie Plantation Sugar Beach as the property continues its US$100 million transition towards becoming The Tides Sugar Beach next year. The new Rain-forest Spa is going to be an exciting addition and yet another sign of the spectacular things to come once our transition is complete.”
