Starwood Expands Into Inner Mongolia

JANUARY 10, 2007. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc and Inner Mongolian Datang International Tuo Ke Tuo Power Generation Co., Ltd have announced an agreement whereby Starwood will manage the Sheraton Hohhot Hotel in Inner Mongolia in China.

Scheduled to open in July 2009, the hotel will be located in a prime location in downtown Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia, China. The hotel will feature 350 rooms, 21,000 square feet of meeting space, three restaurants, a close to 10,000 square feet health club, with 8,000 square feet spa and indoor heated pool. The hotel will also be the first internationally branded upper upscale hotel to open in Inner Mongolia.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts expanded its portfolio in China significantly over the past 18 months with the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Shanghai, Pudong, Sheraton Xiamen Hotel, Sheraton Ningbo Hotel, Sheraton Haikou Resort, Sheraton Urumqi Hotel and The Westin Beijing, Financial Street; and the signing of Sheraton hotels in Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Wenzhou, Chongqing, Taiyuan, Hangzhou and Huizhou. With a total of 31 operating hotels and 27 hotels under development in China, Starwood is well-established as one of the largest international operators of upper upscale hotels in China.

Located in the southern central part of Inner Mongolia, Hohhot is the capital of Inner Mongolia's Autonomous Region, and serves as the regional hub for politics, economy, culture and transportation. Hohhot is about 669 kilometers from Beijing and its economy has grown significantly over the past five years, with annual GDP growth of over 20% annually. Inner Mongolia is situated in northern China, bordering the Mongolia Republic and Russia in the north, and is one of the most resource rich regions in China, with industries including farming, animal husbandry and mining as the key driving forces of Inner Mongolia's economy. As one of the most interesting regions in China with its vast grasslands, natural scenic areas and historical and cultural sites, Inner Mongolia is easily one of the most popular travel destinations in China.

Sheraton Hohhot Hotel will be located about 20 minutes from the Hohhot Baita International Airport, and will be in close proximity to the offices of Inner Mongolia Regional government and will provide easy access to major commercial and retail buildings as well as major tourist attractions.
