IH&RA Cancels 43rd World Congress
Human Resources Development Forum Scheduled for Buenos Aires in October, 2006
PARIS, France, August 7th 2006. IH&RA regrets to announce that it will cancel its 43rd Annual Congress and Human Resources Development Forum scheduled to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 26-29 October.
The new leadership of its prestigious Member and host FEHGRA, Federacion Empresaria Hotelera Gastronomica de la Republica Argentina, has decided that for purely internal reasons it is no longer in a position to honour the commitment made by its previous president to host the 43rd World Congress of the IH&RA in Buenos Aires this year. This decision was reached by the Executive Committee of FEHGRA under the direction of their newly appointed President and was formally communicated to IH&RA's President, Mr Dieter Huckestein.
"This is a huge disappointment" stated Dieter Huckestein, "particularly in view of the excellent Congress Program and prestigious and influential slate of high-level keynote speakers and panelists we had lined up to bring delegates from all over the world to the exciting city of Buenos Aires, one of the world's great tourism destinations."
Professor Kaye Chon, Chair of the Human Resources Forum and Dean of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Hotel & Tourism Management, was also dismayed by this cancellation amounting to a major setback for the academic and human resources community who had submitted some 30 papers in preparation for the Forum.
The IH&RA will make alternative arrangements to hold its Statutory meetings (Board, National Association Chief Executives (NACE), Chains Council and General Assembly) in an alternate location, the details of which will be announced shortly.
