Kempinski Opens First Five Star Hotel in Djibouti
NOVEMBER 29, 2006. The 300 room beachfront hotel will open on 10 November. It is located 4 km North the city at Heron Bay between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean and 9 km from the airport.
The first phase of the Djibouti Palace Kempinski includes 177 rooms and suites, an infinity pool, a 400 seat restaurant serving international and regional cuisine, an a la carte restaurant, a cafe and lobby lounge and wireless internet throughout the hotel. In addition there will be a state-of-the-art conference centre with a grand ballroom for up to 1,100 guests and meeting rooms with the latest communication technology.
When complete, the hotel will have 300 rooms, a spa, a fitness centre, casino and a nightclub. Immediately after opening, it will host the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) - one of the most important meetings for Heads of State from the area.
One hundred staff from ten Kempinski Hotels from around the world have been sent to the hotel as part of a 'five-star task force' to help prepare for the opening. They will work closely with the 150 locally-recruited staff on the COMESA event.
Due to its strategic location at the mouth of the Red Sea and many of the world's busiest shipping lanes, Djibouti is an important transit port for the region which offers international transhipment and refuelling services. The country has some beautiful beaches and offers some exceptional scuba diving and snorkelling. Lake Assal's volcanic formations and the flamingos on Lake Abb'e are also both easily accessible.
The hotel has been developed by Nakheel Hotels and Resorts in a record design-build time of only 11 months.
