Hilton, UNITE HERE Reach Tentative Agreement in Chicago
BEVERLY HILLS, CA, August 31, 2006. Hilton Hotels Corporation (NYSE:HLT) today announced a tentative agreement with UNITE HERE on a new contract covering the Hilton Chicago, Hilton O'Hare Airport, The Drake, and the Palmer House Hilton.
The three-year agreement is subject to ratification by UNITE HERE Local 1 and Local 450. The agreement features improved pay, pension and health care provisions. Specific details will be released after the ratification vote, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 6.
"We are pleased to be the first hotel operator in Chicago to reach agreement with the union on a new contract. We believe this agreement rewards our 2,300 team members at the Hilton Chicago, Hilton O'Hare Airport, The Drake and the Palmer House Hilton, while keeping our hotels competitive and a valued destination for our guests," said Matthew J. Hart, president and chief operating officer of Hilton Hotels Corporation.
"We are very excited about the settlement, which was overwhelmingly recommended by our members who participated on the negotiating committee," said Henry Tamarin, president of Local 1.
"Our Chicago agreement represents another positive step forward in our relationship with UNITE HERE," Mr. Hart said.
This is the second major collective bargaining agreement that Hilton and UNITE HERE have successfully negotiated recently since announcing a five-year agreement last month that they have termed a "Partnership for Future Growth."
On July 29, Hilton and the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council reached agreement on a new six-year contract for team members at all Hilton hotels in New York City, including the Hilton New York and Waldorf=Astoria.
