Relief for Today and Opportunity for Tomorrow: Millenneum Hotels and Resorts Provides Aid for Victim
Employees From Across the Nation Come Together to Offer Both Short and Long-Term Support
NEW YORK, NY, October 11, 2005. In times of national tragedy, like Hurricane Katrina, it is essential to recovery efforts that charitable forces unite to provide effective support. To make their contributions to the relief efforts as valuable as possible, all fourteen Millennium Hotels and Resorts in the U.S. joined together to provide relief via a "Basic Essentials Drive" and by posting nationwide job opportunities on the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA) national job bank. By way of these initiatives, Millennium is committed to delivering both short- and long-term assistance to the innocent victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Immediately after the hurricane struck, Millennium staff members across the nation participated in a "Basic Essentials Drive" that generated over 12,000 donated items including hygiene items, toiletries, food, clothes, medicine, baby products, paper products and more to offer short-term, necessary relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In addition, Millennium has submitted nationwide employment opportunities to TIA's national job bank to provide long-term assistance to displaced members of the hospitality industry. As a result of Millennium's postings, a former resident of New Orleans has already joined the Millennium family. Clark Davis was recently hired as the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Millennium Harvest House in Boulder, Colorado. Davis brings with him 22 years of hospitality industry experience and was previously employed as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Renaissance Pere Marquette and Renaissance Arts Hotels in New Orleans. Millennium anticipates providing further long-term aid to displaced hospitality industry employees in the states hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"It is evident that the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina requires both short- and long-term relief programs for those citizens distressed by the storm," commented Sudheer Raghaven, President of Millennium Hotels and Resorts North America. "In an attempt to maximize the impact of our efforts, Millennium employees across the nation collaborated on Millennium's Basic Essentials Drive and TIA job bank posting initiatives. We applaud the involvement of our staff and pledge to continue Millennium's national relief efforts."
