Split Rock Resort in PA Poconos Opening Waterpark

LAKE HARMONY, PA, July 22, 2008. A new 53,000-square-foot indoor waterpark, appropriately named H2Oooohh, will make a big splash this fall when it opens at Split Rock Resort, the Pocono Mountains' largest resort facility. The $19 million waterpark will enable visitors to extend their summers long after Labor Day has passed with features such as body slides, a family raft ride, a multi-level splash playground and a children's activity pool. In addition, the complex will feature the FlowRider, the Pocono's fist indoor, innovative swift-moving water wave for boogie boarding and board surfing. The H2Oooohh debut bolsters the popular trend of indoor waterpark vacations and joins other such popular amusement destinations across the country.

"We are incredibly excited to unveil our new indoor waterpark this fall," said Chuck Dickinson, director of special projects at Split Rock Resort. "Indoor waterpark vacations are incredibly popular with the family traveler. We built this facility to enhance the experience for both our existing guests and to attract new clientele in search of the 'all-in-one' destination. Unlike other indoor waterparks, we're also open to the public!"

Guests of H2Oooohh will have much to discover as they enter the rainforest-themed waterpark. The Flowrider will challenge motor and balance skills, while a multi-level water playground will squirt, spurt and douse kids with a big "surprise" with a dipping bucket of water. Another activity pool just for younger guests will keep them busy all day long while those looking for a reprieve will find it in the wavepool and whirlpools. The park will also include lockers and a fully-equipped snack bar for guests' convenience, and enjoyment while watching surfers on the Flowrider.

The waterpark will be kept at an optimal temperature of 84 degrees with low humidity for the comfort of guests and also features a large skylight roof to flood the space with sunlight year-round. Park rates and hours will be posted at www.SplitRockResort.com starting on September 1, 2008.

This new attraction will further expand the already seemingly endless array of recreational options available at Split Rock Resort, which include everything from golf, tennis and boating to hiking, biking and swimming. In addition, the resort features its own first run movie theater, bowling alley, fitness facility with three restaurants and three snack bars. Lodging accommodations range from standard hotel rooms to deluxe two-bedroom suites and town home villas with full kitchens, for family convenience. .

Split Rock Resort & Golf Club, once a hunting and fishing retreat is now a four season resort. Located in the western region of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, overlooking beautiful Lake Harmony. Split Rock maintains approximately 500 acres and encompasses a wide variety of accommodations and recreational amenities.

A little more than 170 years ago, the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company bought 45,000 acres in the Pocono Mountains to protect its headwater rights to the Lehigh River. The development and transfiguration of the land began in 1938 when Robert V. White took over the presidency of the company. Mr. White realized the potential of beautiful mountain terrain naturally stocked with fish and game. Within 10 years of its opening in 1941, The Lodge was one of the East's finest year-round sports resorts.

With the demise of the coal industry, Lehigh Coal and Navigation lost much of it's interest in The Lodge, and it was sold to Treadway Inn in July of 1967. Treadway operated Split Rock until shortly after a devastating fire destroyed the major portion of The Lodge on Sunday, August 23, 1970. In 1971, a group of Split Rock cottage owners formed Pocono Recreation, Inc. and purchased the Split Rock property from Treadway in June of that year. Pocono Recreation, Inc. constructed 50 rooms at the Lodge and operated the property though out the 70's. On April 2, 1981, the stock was purchased by Jack and Barbara Kalins and merged it into their company, Vacation Charters, Ltd. Since that time, The Lodge turned into a resort and more than $35 million has been spent on new facilities to accommodate the growing number of guests.
