Newly Constructed Wyndham Opens in Gettysburg, PA
PARSIPPANY, NJ, October 13, 2006. Wyndham Hotels and ResortsTM today announced the opening of the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel, the first new-construction Wyndham property to open since the brand's acquisition by Wyndham Worldwide in October 2005.
The 248-room, full-service hotel developed by The Monahan Group occupies part of Gateway Gettysburg, a $275 million shopping, dining, and entertainment complex located on a pedestrian-friendly, 100-acre campus in historic Gettysburg, Pa., 36 miles from Harrisburg, Pa., 54 miles from Baltimore, 78 miles from Washington and 118 miles from Philadelphia.
The hotel is designed to attract leisure travelers and business groups alike with 11 suites, two restaurants, executive health club and indoor pool. Its 16,000 square feet of meeting space can accommodate groups up to 1,200. The hotel's Presidential Ballroom seats up to 900.
Of 15 franchise and management agreements signed since the acquisition of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts last year by what is now Wyndham Worldwide, the Gettysburg hotel is the first to be built and open, according to Peter Strebel, president of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. Other Wyndham agreements include major market locations including Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago and New York City, all due, he said, to the company's efforts develop the upscale hotel brand rapidly worldwide.
"We are pleased to welcome the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel into our growing system," Strebel said, speaking at the property's grand-opening ceremony. "We are focused on attracting new-construction opportunities that reflect the brand's upscale positioning as well as high-quality conversion properties."
The brand offers owners and developers adaptable prototypes ranging from 126 to 301 rooms that meet local market needs, he said.
"This property, which is located near Gettysburg National Military Park and designed with a heightened appreciation of the Civil War, is an example of how the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand strives to provide owners and developers with the flexibility to reflect the attributes of different regions," he said.
Each guest room includes a 27" LCD flat-screen television; high-speed Internet access; cordless speaker phone; an ergonomic Herman Miller(R) desk chair; in-room safe; and upgraded mattress with luxury bedding. Nearly all guest rooms are equipped with glass-enclosed showers with spa showerheads.
"Providing a level of quality and innovation unique to the area, the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel is a world-class facility offering an unparalleled lodging, dining and conference experience," said Robert J. Monahan Jr., Gateway Gettysburg chief executive officer.
