The Shelborne by Proper Set to Open in Miami Beach, Florida
The Shelborne by Proper in Miami Beach, Proper Hospitality's first entry into the Florida market, launches reservations for May 1, 2025. Located on the famed Collins Avenue, The Shelborne Hotel opened in 1940 welcoming a variety of notable guests throughout its rich history. Now, the beachfront property of 251 rooms, suites and villas - a majority with ocean views - will soon be brought back to its mid-century grandeur following a $100 million renovation.
Operating and managing the landmark building in its new chapter is Proper Hospitality, the Santa Monica-based luxury lifestyle hospitality brand known for its signature approach of laid-back luxury and elevated design that brings a global sophistication to their hotels.

Showcasing a refined blend of Miami Art Deco and Miami Modernism (MiMo) design, the property has been given a full refresh under the design of award-winning ADC Atelier. Notable updates include the newly created 4,000-square-foot grand lobby bar, which incorporates the historic restoration of the 18th Street facade and double-height windows. Original elements of the property have been restored, such as the iconic building facade and iconic pool complete with a landmark diving board - thoughtfully reimagining the space while preserving its original 1950s grandeur appearance and character.
Guest rooms and suites feature soothing warm and earthy hues, while windows frame ocean and city skyline views. Custom details include ceramic sconces, honed travertine floors, handwoven wall coverings, bespoke furnishings, and handcrafted ceramics. Signature suites include a 1,700-square-foot Two-Bedroom Penthouse Suite with a large outdoor terrace and unobstructed views of the ocean and Miami Beach; as well as a Two Bedroom Terrace Suite featuring a curated collection of vintage and modern sculptural accessories and an expansive outdoor terrace. A slate of One-Bedroom King Suites offer stunning ocean views from the living rooms and bedroom balconies, while two-bedroom Pool Villas nestle adjacent to the pool boasting a kitchenette, cozy seating areas, and a terrace overlooking the pool and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

The Shelborne by Proper's food and beverage program is being crafted in partnership with the acclaimed Lowder-Tascarella team. Helmed by multiple Michelin-starred Chef Abram Bissell — a Florida Keys native known for his leadership at New York City's Eleven Madison Park, NoMad, and The Modern — and globally awarded beverage creative Christopher Lowder the property will come alive with the vibrant flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean, all infused with the fresh, electric energy of Miami. Together, Proper Hospitality and Lowder-Tascarella will shape the culinary vision across a variety of dining and imbibing experiences for guests and locals alike, including the hotel's signature restaurant, Pauline; intimate cocktail lounge, Little Torch; Lobby Bar and Café; and outdoor pool bar and oceanfront beach club.
A beach and wellness membership will be available for locals, while amenities for guests include a 24-hour fitness center and wellness program, and access to the beach club nestled into the golden sands of Miami Beach. In total, the property boasts over 30,000 square feet of flexible indoor-outdoor event space, including a Terrace and Event Lawn perfect for conferences, galas, and seaside celebrations.
