Sundance Mountain Resort Breaks Ground on The Inn at Sundance

USA, Sundance, Utah. July 15, 2024

Sundance Mountain Resort broke ground on the forthcoming Inn at Sundance Resort, commencing a new era for the famed property. Projected to open in 2025-26, the new 63-room, ADA-accessible inn at the resort's base village will satisfy a long-awaited need for the renowned destination. Inn at Sundance - the flagship project of the Sundance Mountain Resort's Act II era - continues the legacy upheld by its iconic founder Robert Redford, and its new ownership group.

This next chapter is inspired by Redford's masterful vision to develop a little, and preserve a lot. The 2020 sale of Sundance Mountain Resort was the result of a long-term plan to preserve and build upon the destination's storied history and continue its commitment to balance development, while protecting thousands of acres for future generations to experience exactly what inspired Sundance from the beginning.

Sundance Mountain Resort's Act II phase will provide an enhanced experience for the local community, legacy guests and first-time visitors alike. Improvements are already underway, including the finetuning of resort operations, expanded snow making capabilities, terrain development for beginner and intermediate skiers and more. See below for scene-by-scene updates of what's in progress, as well as at act2.sundanceresort.com.

Projects Wrapped:

This year, the resort unveiled The Springs, a freshly constructed trio of relaxation pools featuring two hot tubs and one large relaxation spa, changing rooms, an outdoor sauna and outdoor shower. Available exclusively to lodging guests and offering sweeping views of Mt. Timpanogos, The Springs are open and accessible year-round. In 2021, the resort launched its highly anticipated Outlaw Express Lift, bringing skiers all the way to the Mandan summit in seven minutes, a massive improvement from its former 20-minute ride.

In Production:

Act II continues this year with additional renovations and program launches, marked by the groundbreaking of the Inn at Sundance. Modern and western, rugged yet refined, the Inn will span two buildings to ensure it doesn't stand higher than the tallest surrounding tree. Designed to serve as a cozy home away from home, the Inn will include a comfortable "Living Room" lounge, a ski locker "Mud Room," and a wrap-around porch deck providing ample indoor-outdoor space for lounging. Ski-in/ski-out access offers guests direct proximity to mountain adventure with a Mt. Timpanogos sunrise starting each day off on the right foot.

Based in the Inn, a new Mountain Veterans Program has been announced, serving wounded veterans and their families. A new Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA) project area at Sundance Mountain Resort was created late last year with Sundance, creating an opportunity to assist the wounded and injured veteran community with their physical and emotional recovery. All costs to participating veterans and their families are covered, including transportation, lodging, meals and activities, as well as referrals from four U.S. military hospitals. Adaptive ski lessons through the Sundance ski school will make it possible for veterans to hone new skills on the slopes as well.

Furthermore, the Cottages at Sundance are seeing tasteful upgrades to their design including new appliances, countertops, window dressing, and furnishings, all while upholding the original rustic feels that lends so much charm to visiting guests' experience. This year, the Mountain Camp Day Lodge will open, providing a facility to make day-skiers' lives easier with lockers, a ticket office, ski school home base, gear rentals and more right next to the recently expanded resort parking.

A Preview:

On the horizon, Sundance Mountain Resort will see the addition of six new-build, ski-in/ski-out townhomes nestled in the village trees alongside the creek, as well as a new lift and terrain expansion of its back mountain.

"Having been here for many decades, I always enjoy seeing Sundance evolve while remaining true to its founding values," said President and General Manager, Chad Linebaugh. "The Inn at Sundance is a project we have been thinking about for many years and I'm thrilled with the final plans which tie the village together within its existing aesthetic and charm. We look forward to welcoming guests from all places to enjoy the ‘home-like' feeling of the Inn, combined with views of Mt. Timpanogos and the sound of the stream."
