Kimpton's Hotel Solamar Completes Major Renovation

Re-launch Package Encourages Guests to 'Rediscover Their Inspiration' with a Private Cooking Class, Libations and Dining Offer

. March 16, 2016

SAN DIEGO, CA. March 16, 2016 — Kimpton's Hotel Solamar announced today it has completed a major renovation, fully redesigning its meeting spaces, lobby and all 235 guestrooms. With design at the forefront of the renovation, new rooms and public spaces of the downtown San Diego hotel now showcase Spanish contemporary style, fusing the city's historic references with contemporary touches.

Launched in 2005, Hotel Solamar was Kimpton's first Southern California hotel. One of the goals of the renovation was to capture the essence of the city and truly bring its authentic San Diego story to life. Pulling inspiration from local historic landmarks, such as Balboa Park and Southern California's historic Missions, Paletteur's Gino Castaño and David Lasker were successful in blending Spanish-influenced architecture with eclectic modern fixtures and touches.

Design elements include woven vinyl headboards and beautifully detailed furnishings, with graphic patterns and rich textures. The color palette captures Southern California's playfulness and sophistication and includes a range of purples, gold, fuchsia, and orange, among others. Glass and mirrors are carefully placed throughout the rooms to help lighten the spaces and bring out that warm California sun.

Other subtle San Diego influences include surfboard-inspired bathroom mirrors and Mexican tile-inspired wall coverings, in a chic black and white palette. Additionally, most of the new guestrooms now include a sofa for extra seating, creating a mini-suite feel.

“We couldn't be happier with the renovation and re-launch,” said Shannon Foster, general manager at Hotel Solamar. “As the a first Kimpton in San Diego and, particularly in the downtown neighborhood, we've witnessed first-hand this city's major transformation over the past 11 years. It's great to be able to now not only offer a stunning new product in the ideal location, but to truly capture the essence of the city as we continue to create genuine guest experiences.”

To celebrate the re-launch, Hotel Solamar is offering guests an exclusive Rediscover Your Inspiration package, which includes deluxe accommodations in one of the newly-renovated rooms, a private cooking class with the culinary team, wine and libations and a three-course Chef's Mercy dinner following the cooking class. Guests must be 21 or older to book this package, with dates subject to availability. The booking rate code is PCOOK and rates start at $439.
