Hilton Americas-Houston Recognizes Cy-Hope, Inc. for “TENSATIONAL” Community Service

Organization Wins $10,000 Package Following Online Anniversary Contest

HOUSTON - May 5, 2014 - Hilton Americas-Houston today declared Cy-Hope, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing at-risk children with opportunities to succeed in life, to be its “TENSATIONAL” Community Service Contest winner.

Held in conjunction with Hilton Americas-Houston's 10th anniversary celebration, the TENSATIONAL Community Service Contest recognized the great work of six community non-profit organizations via an essay competition. The winner was determined by online public voting.

Cy-Hope will now receive a TENSATIONAL Community Package valued at $10,000, including a meeting room for 10 months, 10 hotel stays, complimentary meals, spa certificates, free parking and more to assist the organization with operational expenses, fundraising and recognition of its staff and volunteers.

The once-affluent suburb of Cy-Fair is seeing an increase in poverty and children in need, with 50 percent of the students in the Cy-Fair Independent School District now considered to be at-risk. With those numbers increasing each year, Cy-Hope is partnering with schools to offer sustenance, mentoring and tutoring to help children grow to be well-educated and productive citizens.

“Cy-Hope helps around 42,000 children every year, and based on the tremendous response to our contest, they have widespread support for their efforts in the community,” said Janice O'Neill-Cox, director of sales and marketing. “We are pleased we can recognize their great work, and the work of all of our contest finalists, as part of our TENSATIONAL celebration.”

Other finalists were The Beacon, a comprehensive ministry supporting Houston's homeless; Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), a non-profit agency that seeks to stop the destruction of healthy dogs and cats by increasing availability and use of animal sterilization; Vita-Living, which provides services and support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; Volunteer Houston, the city's sole referral service connecting volunteers to a broad spectrum of diverse nonprofit organizations; and the World Youth Foundation, a positive "mentoring gateway" focused on increasing self-confidence and skills in science and technology, engineering, arts and math.
