Japan's Newly Built 150-room Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station Opens

. April 08, 2014

Tokyo, Japan - April 8, 2014 - Marriott International, Inc. announces the opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station. Located in the Kyobashi commercial district, the 150-room hotel is just four minutes on foot from the bullet-train-serviced Yaesu side of Tokyo Station. It occupies the first four floors of the newly built Kyobashi Trust Tower, a 21-storey building conveniently situated on the Chuo-dori thoroughfare between Ginza and Nihonbashi, both renowned for their flagship boutiques and centuries-old shops. The Tokyo Metro Ginza Line is one minute from the front door.

Commenting on the occasion, Simon Cooper, Marriott International's president and managing director for Asia Pacific, said: "we are delighted to be opening, in this prime location, the second Courtyard branded hotel in Japan. Uniting innovative technology with contemporary design and comfort, it is a showcase example of Marriott International's vision for smart business travel. That model comes to life in destinations around the world thanks to the expertise, knowledge and skills of local partners who share our values. In Mori Trust we have found an excellent partner and we look forward to a long association with them to ensure the ongoing success of this exciting hotel."

Miwako Date, president of Mori Trust Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., said: "following on the December 2013 opening of Tokyo Marriott Hotel in Shinagawa, the close alliance of Marriott and Mori Trust has now produced this cutting-edge business hotel. Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station provides domestic and international visitors alike an ideal location, the highest standards of safety, intuitive room designs and of course attentive service that leaves guests feeling refreshed and knowing that they have experienced something special."

For business travellers who seek a distinctive experience, Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station offers four thoughtfully designed room types ranging in size from 16 to 33 square metres, inviting public spaces in which to unwind and a mix of services that help guests stay connected, productive and balanced. Self-service kiosks expedite check-in and check-out, and for the first time ever in Japan, keyless entry allows guests to use their smartphone to access their room. Women-only rooms provide enhanced privacy and amenities for female guests, while 24-hour gym access and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the premises enable all guests to make the most of their time in this dynamic capital, whether working or relaxing.

Guests and locals can take full advantage of the mild spring weather at GG Co., a first-floor cafe and bakery with terrace seating. The adjacent Lavarock restaurant, named for its lava-rock grill, serves contemporary bistro fare and grilled specialties from breakfast through bar time and offers semi-private seating. For registered guests, a library bar on the fourth floor provides casual space for impromptu meetings, while private gatherings and conferences of up to 130 people may be accommodated in four separate and fully equipped meeting venues on site.

Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station is the 15th Marriott International property to open in Japan, and the latest addition to the Courtyard portfolio of more than 950 hotels in 38 countries and territories. With its proximity to Tokyo Station, the largest train terminal in the country, the hotel is expressly poised to meet a growing demand for quality hospitality experiences in the capital. In 2013, Japan welcomed its ten-millionth international visitor since launching the Visit Japan campaign ten years earlier, and UNESCO both inscribed Mount Fuji onto its World Heritage list and recognised Japanese cuisine as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. In December of this year, the recently refurbished Tokyo Station will mark its centennial anniversary; many commemorative events are planned. Moreover, with the 2020 Summer Olympics now set for Tokyo, a steady increase in the number of inbound travellers is expected.
