Ibis Celebrates 1,000 Hotels with Simultaneous Launches in Surabaya, Rio and Berlin

. January 27, 2014

\January 27, 2014 - To celebrate its 1,000th hotel in the world, Accor's ibis brand last night held simultaneous parties on three continents: at ibis Surabaya Basuki Rahmat in Indonesia; ibis Berlin Kurfurstendamm in Germany; and ibis Rio De Janeiro Botafogo in Brazil.

Celebrations started first in Indonesia where the hotel arranged 1,000 food packages to be distributed on the streets of Surabaya then continued with a party at the hotel around the theme of "with ibis now the best place to sleep is everywhere". The event featured models lazing on the comfortable Sweetbed by ibis, food from around the world, themed zones including a lush jungle and a winter wonderland, and a welcoming traditional Indonesian dance.

More than 200 people attended the event including His Excellency Mr Sapta Nirwandar, Vice Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Indonesia , the Head of Tourism and Culture Department, East Java Province as the representative of Governor of East Java and more. Given the time difference between the three counties, the Indonesians had to party until the wee hours to take part in a live cross between the three cities at 1am local time.

Gerard Guillouet, Accor's Senior Vice President Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore said he was thrilled that Indonesia could play a pivotal role in the global event. "Accor is the number one international hotel group in Indonesia and ibis is our largest brand here, so we are delighted to showcase this new ibis in Surabaya which features all the new brand standards including the Sweetbed by ibis," he said.

Ibis Surabaya Basuki Rahmat hotel has 224 well-equipped guestrooms and is strategically located in the heart of the city in the busiest district of Surabaya. This newly-built hotel is located only 10 minutes away from Gubeng Railway Station and the city's Juanda International Airport.

Since its launch in 1974, the ibis brand has become the benchmark for economy hotels. Following the brand's revolution two years ago which brought together the ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget brands together under one umbrella, the ibis brand has enjoyed sustained growth, with 52 per cent of Accor's openings in 2013 being under the ibis family. Including ibis budget and ibis Styles along with ibis, the 'megabrand' boasts over 1700 hotels
