West Edmonton, Alberta Hotel to Open in Summer 2014

EDMONTON, Alberta / MCLEAN, Virginia - September 25, 2013 - Home2 Suites by Hilton, Hilton Worldwide's award-winning mid-tier, all-suite hotel brand, recently celebrated a major milestone in its expansion plan with the first steel studs going up for the Home2Suites by Hilton West Edmonton. The hotel, owned and managed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, is set for completion in summer 2014. This will be the brand's first hotel in Canada.

In line with Home2 Suites' innovative approach, the Home2 Suites Edmonton will utilize pre-fabricated structural steel studs for the building's framework instead of the traditional wood frame structure. "The quick construction pace of the West Edmonton property is a testament to the Home2 Suites model, which allows developers and owners to begin their performance story faster," said Bill Duncan, global head, Home2 Suites by Hilton.

"Pre-fabricated steel frames are 100 percent recyclable and also allow us to expedite the construction period," said Steve Giblin, president and CEO, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. Edmonton-based Kerr Interiors will fabricate and assemble all of the hotel's steel studs.

Duncan added, "We look forward to further expanding our footprint in 2014 and bringing Home2 Suites' many added value benefits to business and leisure travelers in the Canada market."

The 123-suite hotel is centrally located with easy access to some of the city's top attractions like West Edmonton Mall, Telus World of Science, Fort Edmonton Park, and Edmonton River Valley. The hotel will offer guests stylish accommodations, flexible room configurations and trademark Home2 Suites amenities, designed specifically with the extended stay traveler in mind. Innovative features include: easy access to technology and inviting community spaces such as the Oasis lobby area; the Home2 MKT for grab-and-go items; the award-winning Spin2 Cycle, a combined laundry and fitness area; and the free continental breakfast at the Inspired Table that includes a variety of morning favorites like a hot breakfast sandwich. The hotel also will feature an indoor saline pool and patio with a fire pit for guest use.

The new-build Home2 Suites also represents the expansion of SilverBirch's extended-stay portfolio, which includes a Homewood Suites by Hilton currently under construction in Halifax.
