Turtle Bay Redefines “Board Meetings” with Perfect Blend of Work and Play in New Workation Program

. September 04, 2013

Oahu, HI - September 4, 2013 - Turtle Bay Resort, the only destination resort on Oahu's fabled North Shore, is embracing a balance of work and play in a new meetings program, where cutting-edge companies in search of a fresh approach to incentive programs are packing up their offices and bringing them to the beach.

It's a concept called “Workation,” giving businesses the freedom to take work on the road while enhancing morale, idea generation and team building - all while continuing business as usual.

Turtle Bay Resort recognizes the need for employees to decompress, reconnect with their team and strategize about opportunities in an environment that provides a professional dedicated work space, as well as numerous team-building experiences found nowhere else. The resort works with each business on a tailored plan that emphasizes relaxed and flexible meeting schedules accommodating activities ranging from on-site spa treatment sessions and expert-led relaxation and meditation breaks to team sky diving, surfing and horseback riding experiences - all on Oahu's fabled North Shore.

Turtle Bay Resort's Workation program is designed to:
• Enhance productivity
• Provide flexible schedules
• Create a relaxed, positive atmosphere
• Encourage innovation, creativity and collaboration
• Promote wellness, adventure and the Spirit of Aloha
• Instill a sense of stewardship through give-back opportunities

Turtle Bay Resort's top-of-the-line meeting spaces provide all the comfort and technological connectivity needed for a seamless transition from the office without disruption to customers - and give employees sweeping ocean views, as well as a premium on-site food and beverage service, while they work.

Portland, Ore.-based e-commerce company TheClymb.com has chosen Turtle Bay Resort for its Workation getaway for the past two years. The company's 70 employees enjoy a workday that starts early, leaving the afternoon free to experience Hawaii's most storied coastline.

“Turtle Bay is the ideal location for team building, increasing company morale, and, of course, having a good time,” said TheClymb.com co-founder Cec Annett. “It's important to be authentic to who we are as an adventure brand, and there's no better place to come work and play.”

The Workation program also encourages the enhancement of important outdoor and cultural sites along the North Shore through giveback opportunities, promoting stewardship, with an emphasis on traditional Hawaiian values such as laulima (cooperation) and mālama (to take care of). Participants come away with a sense of accomplishment and a stronger connection to Hawaii. Opportunities include habitat maintenance for 117 species of birds at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge; agricultural restoration through the planting and harvesting of taro; shoreline clean-ups along Turtle Bay Resort's adjacent coastal dunes, beaches, bays and tide pools; and the maintenance of cultural sites in Waimea Valley's 1,875 beautiful acres.

“Turtle Bay Resort is able to expertly accommodate a variety of meeting styles, with world-class facilities right in the heart of Oahu's legendary waterman culture,” said Cindy Gagle, director of sales and marketing at Turtle Bay. “Our 840 acres offer numerous team-building opportunities, such as stand-up paddle boarding and hiking - and many guests take our Aloha Spirit back with them to their office, which is an incredible value-added benefit unique to Hawaii. This is truly the next generation of meetings.”

The adventure doesn't stop when the sun sets. Turtle Bay's new Surfer, The Bar offers a weekly lineup of experiences, including live music and Talk Story sessions with water-men and women from around the world. Guests can also take advantage of the resort's brand new wellness center, Nalu Kinetic Spa, with an expert lineup of activities and classes; surf and paddleboard lessons from the pros at the resort's Hans Hedemann Surf Center; customized adventure outings with the new North Shore Guides Club, coordinating activities unique to the North Shore; and farm / sea- to-table dining at the resort's new restaurants The North Shore Kula Grille and Pa'akai.
