August 14, 2013 - The landmark Waldorf Astoria New York announces the completion of a $12-million dollar restoration project of its unique interior motor court, one of the hotel's most distinguishing features.
An enclosed drive which has welcomed celebrities and dignitaries has now been transformed to allow for a more refined arrival, especially for those seeking the anonymity and special security that comes with a stay at the legendary hotel.
The private entrance now evokes a gracious and befitting portal of entry with Art Deco finishes reflecting the original design concept of the grand building.
Restored to its original scope of 1931, the motor court has been reshaped into a four lane arrival venue befitting the hotel's Art Deco design. A granite-curbed circular drive creates an enhancement even to the original design of Schultz and Weaver. The cobblestone finish improves visual appeal while providing an elevated setting from the surrounding city streets. Fluted stone wall panels equipped with a superior lighting package illuminate the space with a lustrous sparkle. Limestone columns and door-frames, adorned with the Waldorf Astoria's signature nickel-silver finish, resonate with the hotel's architecture.
