. July 19, 2013

NEW YORK - July 19, 2013 - Affinia Manhattan, located adjacent to Madison Square Garden and New York's iconic Pennsylvania Station, has completed the final phase of a top to bottom, two year, $33 million hotel renovation. From the guestrooms and suites to meeting and event spaces, and a stunning new lobby, guests of the new Affinia Manhattan will experience a stylish, smart, and comfortable design infused with the energy of New York City and its surrounding prime location.

"The fully renovated Affinia Manhattan was designed to create an urban retreat that reflects the hotel's playground, which is New York City," said Joe Kelly, Affinia Manhattan's general manager. "Our guests have the best of both worlds - the vibrancy of the Big Apple and the comfort-focused details they've come to expect from the Affinia brand."

Affinia Manhattan's new public and event spaces were designed by the celebrated firm, Rottet Studio. The firm chose neutral tones as the backdrop, incorporating splashes of green, orange, and red. The thrilling energy of Manhattan is felt upon entering the hotel's gold revolving doors and featuring a custom-made, awe-inspiring chandelier designed to replicate the topography of New York City. The new lobby has been seamlessly sectioned into three main areas allowing guests to flow from a sprawling front desk space for hotel arrivals and departures to common areas designed for optimal productivity, and modernly designed relaxation seating in the middle arranged in the shape of Manhattan.

Guestrooms

The renovation expanded the property's inventory for a total of 618, including 84 one- and two-bedroom suites with several featuring kitchens and terraces with Manhattan's most iconic city views. Inspired by art studios, the guestrooms were designed by the acclaimed Rockwell Group, featuring a crisp white and gray color palette with green and orange accents and Lutron light switches offering advanced dimming technology throughout the room, emphasize the studio-like feel. Rooms and suites are spacious with ample sitting areas, and include custom-designed Affinia Manhattan beds and a glass artist's table designed exclusively for the hotel. All rooms are equipped with flat screen televisions, MP3 players and wireless Internet. Guests also have full access to the hotel's 1,100 square feet fitness center with state-of-the-art LifeFitness equipment. There's also a laundry facility for guests to wash and dry clothes -- a convenient option for families and extended stays.

Eclectic photos featuring views from Affinia Manhattan, taken by Moudy Elkammash, are showcased with pin-spot lighting throughout guestroom corridors, as an ode to the surrounding neighborhoods and to showcase the hotel's "center of it all" location. The carpet throughout the corridors is accented with bright gold lines, further symbolizing the energy of the city.

Meetings and Events Space

Affinia Manhattan's renovated meetings and events space totals 10,000 square feet and features state-of-the-art technology. A new 31st street entrance, a designated staircase and a new glass elevator allows visitors private access to social events and meetings and provides conference center functionality, all without the impersonal conference center aura. Guests can conveniently flow from room-to-room, benefitting groups or events that have multiple locations. The space features modern neutral colors that provide a base canvas for customizable celebrations of any kind: from bridal showers to holiday parties and other special occasions. The hotel's Fitzgerald Ballroom includes grand chandeliers that complement high-arched windows, ideal for wedding celebrations, and the atrium's second story windows turn into screens for video artwork for a modern twist. The contemporary new space also includes a pre-function area, allowing for seamless registrations and cocktail receptions prior to a main event or meeting.
