Leading with LEED: Lawrence Adams Explores Global Green Rating Systems

. July 19, 2013

Washington, DC - July 19, 2013 - Ecotourism is reported by the World Tourism Organization to be the fastest growing market in the tourism industry. In his newest article for HotelExecutive.com, Lawrence Adams, AIA, vice president of ForrestPerkins and co-author of Hotel Design, Planning and Development, explains that at least 35 countries with at least one unique environmental rating system exist and each with nuances and assessment methodologies specific to that country's climate, economy, building technology and culture.

Mr. Adams also explains that international hotel developers are seeking a common environmental benchmark to evaluate properties. He emphasizes that worldwide acceptance of standardized international rating tools and metrics is a critical next step in the maturation of environmental assessment.

Mr. Adams' article, "Defining LEED Certification on a Global Scale," is the third in a series of Eco-Friendly Practices features that Mr. Adams is writing on sustainability in the hospitality industry for HotelExecutive.com. Mr. Adams is NCARB-certified and licensed in Texas, the District of Columbia and a number of other states. His detailed examination of the diversity of sustainable rating systems and the need for a universal standard for comparing them should be of keen interest to hotel developers and operators around the globe.
