$85 Million Renovation Underway at the Novotel New York Times Square; September Completion Planned

. July 01, 2013

New York, NY - July 1, 2013 - Novotel New York is making a dramatic mark on its centrally-located Times Square address with an exciting $85 million revamp financed by the owners, real-estate asset management companies Charters Lodging Group, LLC and Apollo Global Management, LLC. Led by the design firm Stonehill & Taylor, the complete renovation will create an inviting ambiance in the heart of the city to dazzle contemporary travelers, complete with the new restaurant, Supernova, and an exclusive outdoor Terrace, offering unparalleled views of Times Square. Novotel, Accor's North American flagship brand, will continue to welcome guests throughout the renovation, which is scheduled for completion in September 2013.

More metamorphosis than mere makeover, the renovation of Novotel New York is the first hotel in Times Square to undergo a large-scale redesign in quite some time. The work will reposition the hotel for young, fresh, hip and edgy clientele that are drawn to the city for both business and leisure pursuits. With an electric atmosphere, Novotel New York will emerge as a go-to destination for both travelers and locals who long to be in the heat of the action.

"We can't wait to debut the 'new' Novotel New York this fall, and look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests to experience an unrivaled view of Times Square," said Marc Sternagel, General Manager. "The revived look of the hotel, combined with Supernova restaurant and our stunning Terrace, will offer locals and visitors alike a reason to create their own New York memories."

From Street Entrance to Street Views

Stonehill & Taylor's design work starts at the West 52nd Street entrance and carries through to the new Supernova restaurant and outdoor Terrace on the 7th floor.

The redesign of the lobby is inspired by the concepts of celebration and passage of time, both envisioned in reference to the pop culture and calendar-flipping significance of New Years' Eve in Times Square. The lobby space will be nothing short of dramatic, with stylish seating, constant imagery flashing on LCD flat screens, and a smooth check-in experience.

The hotel arrival experience will feature ambient sound, video art, purposeful materials and lighting that surrounds guests upon entry and transports them to their rooms. Computer-controlled hexagonal LED ceiling panels will illuminate in different colors, complementing changing music and sounds throughout the day. The renovation will further integrate the lobby and 7th floor public spaces into a fluid and sophisticated space with striking views of Times Square.

Outdoor Terrace

The hotel's outdoor Terrace, in particular, is a unique centerpiece and will set the hotel apart from others in the neighborhood, featuring 5,700 square feet of social space seven floors off the ground and a dramatic vista of Times Square from every conceivable angle.

Comfortable walkways, tables for bar service, colorful foliage, and fire pits for enjoying cocktails and bites under the bright lights of Times Square will offer unparalleled vantage points for both locals and hotel guests.

Comfort Food, Cocktails & Doughnuts

Reflecting the location of Novotel New York in the heart of the Theater District, Supernova restaurant will be a destination of its own. Supernova will be a hot spot for pre-theater and post-theater dining, evoking a striking contemporary design for savoring traditional American comfort food and classic American cocktails with an international twist. The restaurant experience will further be enhanced by the hotel's partnership with Doughnuttery. This New York-based purveyor of "hot, fresh, uniquely sugared treats" will serve miniature ringed delights from a "Doughnut Dip Trolley" cart laden with special sauces for dipping. Supernova will play up the partnership in style, with specialty cocktails crafted at The Bar to be paired with doughnuts for a sweet finish - or start - to the evening.

Guest Rooms to Use

Each of Novotel New York's 480 guest rooms will be refashioned into a deluxe, sensuous and sophisticated space in keeping with the hotel brand's contemporary "Next Room" design theme. Anchored by the back-lit headboard of a duvet-covered bed, rooms will unfold with sleek furnishings, clean lines, striking colors and state-of-the-art comforts. New features include chic lighting, 46-inch flat screen TVs, WiFi access, ample workspace with iPad docking stations, and soundproof windows that open and close. Ultramodern bathrooms will be laid out with sleek steel surfaces and spacious glass showers beneath dramatic lighting.
