La Jolla's La Valencia Hotel Completes Renovation

. May 10, 2013

May 10, 2013 - With its rich, 87-year history, La Valencia Hotel looks to the future renewed and revitalized under new ownership and new management. Having finished a complete room renovation in early 2013 and with many more updates planned, this 112-room vintage coastal retreat continues its role as a gathering place where generations of celebrations have taken place.

With its signature pink stucco exterior and iconic tower, “La V” - as it is fondly known by San Diegans - is a landmark on Prospect Avenue, perched on a cliff above the sweepingly beautiful La Jolla Cove.

The Mediterranean style building also features terraced gardens with mature tropical foliage and tranquil fountains, exquisite Spanish mosaics and stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The historic patina of the property means that there are an array of richly appointed and unique accommodations available including specialty suites and studios and 16 spacious villas. Elegantly decorated in warm California hues, each room features extensive amenities like Frette linens, down comforters, Molton Brown bath amenities, personal safes, Keruig in-room coffee, gourmet private bars and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access.

The Mediterranean Room - with gorgeous views, an open air patio and ocean view terrace - is the hotel's signature restaurant, located adjacent to the popular La Sala Lounge off the main lobby. Cafe La Rue and the Whaling Bar - fronting Prospect Street - are presently closed while they are being transformed and expanded into one European bistro style eatery. The space will include a larger bar, terrazzo floors, art deco lighting, warm woods, stone tables, leather banquettes, a collector quality wine vault, a patio dining option as well as the Cafe's prized Wing Howard artwork, depicting lively French town & country scenes.

The hotel's centerpiece is a spectacular ocean view heated pool with an adjoining in- ground whirl pool gazebo; both sanctuaries above the meandering Ellen Browning Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove. An array of event rooms - many with ocean views - can accommodate 10 to 175 guests and serve as an ideal backdrop to the many fairytale, oceanfront weddings and other memorable events that have taken place at the hotel over the years.

After nearly seven decades of local family ownership, La Valencia recently transferred into the hands and vision of Pacifica Host Hotels, a division of Pacifica Companies based in San Diego County. A complete property renovation is currently in process which will include the addition of new suites and a signature spa in the final phase.

“My favorite part of this job is finding out that most guests have a story about a role La V and her staff have played in their lives,” explains Managing Director, Mark Dibella, who also oversaw a re-creation of the historic US GRANT in downtown San Diego. “Many were married here or met their significant others here; others return year after year for family celebrations or quick escapes; some have a relative or friend who used to work here and still others tell me they just wouldn't stay anywhere else when they come to San Diego. We welcome everyone to create memories at the new La V.”

Located in the heart of the Village of La Jolla, La V is just steps away from a wide selection of premier retail and dining options. Renowned leisure destinations are minutes away as well, including the La Jolla Cove, Torrey Pines State Park, Scripps Ocean Institute, the Birch Aquarium as well as UCSD / La Jolla Playhouse and the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art.
