. February 15, 2013

SAN FRANCISCO - February 14, 2013 - Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today it has been awarded the management contract for the much-anticipated, Roman & Williams-designed, luxury hotel opening next year in San Antonio's historic Pearl Brewery development.

Slated for a 2014 opening, the planned 146-room boutique hotel is being designed by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch from Roman & Williams, the noted duo behind John Dory Oyster Bar and several other iconic properties. Located on the site of the original Pearl Brewery in downtown San Antonio, which was established in 1881 and actively brewed hops for 118 years, the hotel will be an important cornerstone of the mixed use development, which already houses a campus for the Culinary Institute of America, along with several popular restaurants and retail shops.

“Kimpton is the recognized leader in adaptive reuse development projects such as this, ,” said Elizabeth Fauerso, Chief Marketing Officer at Pearl. “San Antonio is already emerging as a hot destination for culinary travel, and Kimpton has a great reputation for both chef-driven restaurants, creative services and amenities and warm, personal service that will take the Pearl experience to a whole new level.”

The Pearl development is a mixed-use space that features retail, dining, picturesque green spaces and paseos, an amphitheater alongside the river, educational institutions such as the Aveda Institute and the third campus of the Culinary Institute of America, providing a cultural and culinary destination that pulls in the history and culture of San Antonio, while driving a new contemporary space for the future of this historic location.

The hotel at Pearl will be the third hotel for Kimpton in Texas, joining the Hotel Lumen and the Hotel Palomar in Dallas.

“Texas is a great growth market for us and the ability to expand into San Antonio as part of such an iconic property and popular destination is especially thrilling for us,” said Kimpton CEO Mike Depatie. “With a long history of creating chef-driven, locally-loved restaurants adjacent to our hotels, we're even more excited to be a part of this robust new culinary and hotel destination.”
