Georgia State University's School of Hospitality Celebrates 40th Anniversary

. January 24, 2013

ATLANTA - January 24, 2013 - In 1973, Georgia State University introduced an associate of science degree in hotel-motel management. The legacy of that original program lives on in the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business — which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Over the years, Georgia State's hospitality program expanded its faculty and course offerings, and in 1988, it was named the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration — in honor of the founder of Days Inn. The school is now an integral part of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

“Throughout its proud 40-year history, the School of Hospitality has strived to provide a practical, cutting-edge and global education for its students and alumni,” says Robinson College Dean H. Fenwick Huss. “The keen focus on hospitality as a business has helped the school turn out students with the right skills and perspective to thrive in the industry. We fully expect the next 40 years to be equally exciting and compelling.”

The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration currently has more than 750 undergraduate students, a growing network of more than 1,600 alumni, and a new one-year Master of Global Hospitality Management program launching this fall. The school consistently ranks among the top hospitality programs in the nation based on academic quality, reputation, facilities, internship opportunities and learning beyond the classroom.

“As the School of Hospitality celebrates its 40th anniversary, we want to thank those within the university community who have supported us and helped us grow,” says Debby Cannon, director of the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration. “The faculty joins me in saying thank you to Dean Huss, our industry board members and all who have made this anniversary possible.”

To celebrate its fortieth year, the school has several special events, including a leadership lecture series and an alumni reception, as well as a commemorative issue of its biannual publication. For more information, visit the School of Hospitality's events page »
