The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort Sets Record Rates for Puerto Rico in 2012

Island's only AAA Five Diamond Property Introduces New Standard of Luxury

. January 10, 2013

January 10, 2013 - The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort debuted in November 2010 as the first and only ultra-luxury resort on the Caribbean island, immediately setting a new standard for hospitality in Puerto Rico. The property, which features an array of world-class and exclusive amenities and was awarded the coveted AAA Five Diamond status earlier this year, has consistently grown revenue since opening and closed 2012 as the best year for a luxury resort on the island of Puerto Rico, further solidifying the property's position as the leader in luxury on the island and raising the bar for Puerto Rico.

“From the moment The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort opened its doors, it was clear that the property was a game-changer for Puerto Rico. The resort was designed with a distinct vision, which we have held steadfast, from the early days of the resort's conception to its completion, through to our everyday operation. It is this vision for excellence which is vital to our success,” stated Terry Bechtold, General Manager of The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort.

Under Bechtold's leadership the resort experienced an extraordinary year that included remarkable sales achievements that Puerto Rico has never seen before . The property saw increased revenue in 2012, over 10% versus 2011, as well as an 146.4% increase in revenue per available room, while occupancy level reached nearly 90% during the property's best month this year; this is projected to raise to just under 100% during the same month in 2013. A significant rate increase is expected for that same month next year as well.

Just named Best Large Resort or Hotel in Caribbean ; Best Large Resort or Hotel in Puerto Rico; Best Golf in Puerto Rico by Cigar Aficionado, The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort brought five-star elegance to the island of Puerto Rico and introduced the destination to a luxury hospitality experience unlike any it had previously seen. The stunning 483-acre resort is ideally located on a former coconut plantation, and is nestled between the El Yunque rainforest and the tranquil waters of the Espiritu Santo River. Since its debut, the resort has garnered significant accolades; the magnificent beachfront property recently earned AAA's Five Diamond Rating, making it only one of five other hotels in the Caribbean islands to have received this prestigious accolade, and the only property on Puerto Rico. The resort was thoughtfully developed, ensuring that the local plant and wildlife were not disturbed, and these exceptional efforts and practices have been recognized with Audubon's Gold Signature Sanctuary certification, identifying The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort as the first property in the Caribbean to be honored with this distinction. The resort also features a private bird sanctuary and has an on-site “green team,” composed of an ecologist, two agronomists, and a landscape architect, who cultivate native and indigenous plants that protect the natural vegetation of the resort's lowland coastal and forest areas. As part of the property's commitment to an environmentally sustainable development, the property has also created a 2.4-acre plant nursery and hydroponic garden to supply plants and trees for landscaping and reforestation as well as fresh produce and herbs for Jean-Georges' restaurant Fern and the 10,000 square foot Remède Spa.

Designed by acclaimed architectural firm Hill Glazier, the resort boasts 139 luxuriously appointed guest rooms, including 35 suites with private terraces presenting unforgettable ocean views as well as 25 private St. Regis Estate Homes. Additional features include St. Regis' legendary Butler Service, an ocean-front golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., two idyllic miles of private beach, a sparkling seaside pool and esplanade overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and a variety of outdoor activities including kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, wind surfing, fishing, nature walks, hiking, biking, and tennis. The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is just 16 miles from Puerto Rico's Luis Muñoz international airport, which is the largest hub in the Caribbean.
