Juan J. Garcia Appointed Area Director, Sales and Marketing for Hiltons of Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC - May 17, 2012 - Juan J. Garcia has been named area director, sales and marketing for Hiltons of Washington, D.C., representing Capital Hilton and Washington Hilton. In his new role, Garcia will oversee a team of managers and directors with dedicated sales experience ranging from business, international and leisure travel to government, association, and corporate meetings and conventions. Garcia will also oversee the marketing efforts for both landmark properties.

“Juan successfully launched our premier convention center hotel in Orlando and brings innovation and leadership to the position,” said Ted Ratcliff, senior vice president, operations east for Hilton Worldwide. “He has been a successful leader, and three-time convention hotel director of sales, as well as a national sales association account executive. We're excited to have him as a part of our team in the nation's capital.”

Garcia offers more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry, beginning his career in sales in 1982 as part of a training program at the Denver Marriott Southeast in Colorado. He quickly moved up holding various positions in sales before becoming director of sales in 1986 for Radisson Hotels in Burlington, Vermont, and Austin, Texas. In 1990, he went to work for Omni hotels and held director of sales and marketing positions for hotels in Texas and California before becoming national sales director at the national sales office in Atlanta in 1992, and then director of marketing at CNN Center in 1998. In 2001, he became director of sales and marketing for Renaissance Westchester Hotel before joining Hilton in 2004 as sales and marketing director for the Hilton Atlanta. His last post was in Orlando where he opened the 1,400-room Hilton Orlando connected to the city's convention center.

Garcia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Travel Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has held various leadership positions in industry organizations, and plans to continue his involvement in his new role in Washington, D.C.
