RockResorts Opens Balcones del Atlántico in Dominican Republic

May 12, 2011 - RockResorts welcomes another Caribbean resort to its collection with the official grand opening celebration of Balcones del Atlántico on May 1. Located in the Samaná Peninsula of the Dominican Republic, the property is the first luxury resort situated near the small fishing village of Las Terrenas. Embracing the environment, the multi-room villa-suite resort lies along the sparkling water of nearly a mile of white-sand beaches blending undiscovered natural beauty with island elegance and Latin flair. The resort opened in September 2010 and now that the upscale on-site restaurant Porto is complete, Balcones del Atlántico is celebrating its debut as a RockResort and offering a “Stay Free, Eat Free” package.

Developed by Bisonó Enterprises, Balcones del Atlántico, A RockResort features 86 two- and three-bedroom villa suites, ranging from 1,900 to 4,000 square-feet. With chic tropical accents and a nod to nautical furnishings, each room offers a stylish and comfortable design with a strong emphasis on natural surroundings, as decorated by acclaimed interior designer Patricia Reid. Balcones' open-air, beachfront restaurant, Porto, serves gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner in an idyllic setting. Porto offers the most expansive wine list in the Dominican Republic. Peruvian Chef Bruno Toso designed the menu items surrounding a unique mix of Peruvian flavors, embracing Dominican traditions. Each day, the menu will feature a daily catch as the specialty, ranging from mahi mahi to tuna, depending on the season. Local shrimp will be served by the pound in three unique flavors.

“We are delighted to officially welcome Balcones del Atlántico into the RockResorts portfolio,” said Mark Jeffrey, Area Vice President for RockResorts Coastal Collection. “As we continue to grow our hospitality brand in the Caribbean region, this extraordinary resort and it's iconic location in the Dominican Republic is a perfect fit with our other luxury properties. The addition of Balcones del Atlántico further strengthens the RockResorts Coastal Collection as we plan future expansion.”

Never more than a few steps from sand, sun or shade, guests at Balcones del Atlántico can be as active or relaxed as they choose. The resort features two pools with one swim-up bar, a beach bar and restaurant, water sports from windsurfing to water skiing, snorkeling, and nearby activities can be arranged, such as tennis, horseback riding and biking on one of the several paths around the resort to visit unfrequented beaches and explore small towns on the peninsula. Families can enjoy Balcones' private beach area and children's playground on property.

Available now through December 22, 2011, the “Stay Free, Eat Free” package includes one free night of lodging and a $150 food and beverage credit. Rates start from $262 per night, based on double occupancy, representing a savings of 25 percent. Tax and resort fee not included. Subject to availability and blackout dates apply.

The northeastern Dominican Republic coast has been blessed with tremendous natural attractions like Los Haitises National Park, El Limón Waterfalls, Rincón Bay, Cosón Bay and the vibrant village of Las Terrenas. In keeping with RockResorts' commitment to sustainability, Balcones will offer guests eco-friendly ways to enjoy their vacation with RockResorts' by participating in the resort's environmental and community projects through partnerships with Reef Check - Dominican Republic and Pack for a Purpose, as well ways to appreciate the unique eco-tourism activities of the region. In addition, Balcones takes part in the RockResorts green guest room program. In the near future the resort will also give guests an opportunity to “Give & Getaway,” a RockResorts-wide program that allows guests to volunteer their time “giving back” to the environment with a local conservation project in return for a discounted lodging rate and complimentary gifts.

Samaná is home to one of the largest and best breeding grounds in the world for humpback whales. For guests booking winter travel, between January and March each year, whales from the North Atlantic population migrate to the region for breeding. Guests can also visit El Limón Falls by foot or by horseback. Los Haitises National Park offers adventure tours through Taino caves, subtropical rainforests and archeological wonders. Located on the north coast of the Samaná Peninsula, Las Terrenas brings together a myriad of cultures including French, German, Italian and Spanish influences and offers resort guests additional options for dining, shopping, nightlife and other activities within a short walk along the beach.

Balcones del Atlántico is located within driving distance of two major International airports including Las Americas in Santa Domingo (SDQ) and El Catey in Samaná (AZS).
