Green Practice Certification
Melaka - May 7, 2011 - Holiday Inn Melaka has been certified as a green hotel by the Melaka Historic City Council.
It was indeed a green day for Holiday Inn Melaka after being awarded with “Melaka Historic Council Green Practice Certification 2011” and on top of that being the only hotel in Melaka to receive a “Certificate of Achievement.” The awards were presented by the Melaka Historic Council in the Green Practice Certification 2011 Program recently.
“We are proud to be the only hotel in Melaka to receive this recognition for our green practices, and recognised in this program by the Melaka Historic Council - with such an initiative that promotes our environment friendly hotel” says Christoph Voegeli, General Manager of Holiday Inn Melaka.
Prior from receiving the award, the hotel has been visited by local government officials to audits the criteria stipulated in the National Green Technology Policy. Areas such as building management, energy usage, water conservation, and waste management are among other aspects that are being audited.
The awards have benchmarked Holiday Inn Melaka as the leading hotel in Melaka that practices eco-friendly business.
Projects such as rain water harvesting tank and foods composting which aims to reduce impacts to environment. The hotel also encourages its stay-in guest to be more eco-friendly, for example by giving the guest a choice to change the room's linens only if it is necessary. Holiday Inn Melaka has a strong culture in green practice and all employees are positive and engaged towards environment & community works.
Going green is only part of the hotel's corporate social responsibility. The hotel is also actively engage on other areas such as Entrepreneur, Expression of Care and Education.
About the Certification:
The Green Practice Certification 2011 is one of the programs in the Melaka Historic City Anniversary Celebration 2011. It is also parallel with the state focus on achieving Melaka “Maju Negeri Bandar Teknologi Hijau” (Advancing Green Technology State) by the year 2020 which was launched in March this year. The program was participated by 8 other local hotels and it is judge by local governments, the state economic planning unit, department of environment and others.
