John Schafer Named VP Managing Director at Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego

Largest waterfront hotel on the West Coast,

October 4, 2010 - The largest waterfront hotel on the West Coast, Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, has named John Schafer as Vice President Managing Director. In this new role, he will manage the 1,625-room hotel on San Diego Bay, which is San Diego's largest hotel.

Schafer comes to San Diego from the 2,019-room Hyatt Regency Chicago, where he served as the Vice President Managing Director since October 2008. Prior to Chicago, Schafer spent 19 years in Colorado, including serving as General Manager of the 1,100-room Hyatt Regency Denver.

“John's substantial hospitality-industry experience positions him perfectly to lead the team at Manchester Grand Hyatt,” said Jordan Meisner, Senior Vice President, Field Operations for Hyatt.

Schafer began his career with Hyatt more than 25 years ago and has since served in ten different cities. He has hosted presidents, political dignitaries, heads of state, international delegations, and the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Schafer has been on the opening team of seven different Hyatt properties, and in 1997 and again in 2007, was awarded the distinctive honor of General Manager of the Year for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

Schafer graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Hotel Administration. With a strong commitment to charitable and civic organizations, he has served on numerous tourism, hospitality, and charity boards. Schafer and his wife Sue are the proud parents of four children.
