Ritz-Carlton, Westchester Chefs Share Cupcake Fun with Young Chefs

Junior chefs get tips from the masters June 19 as part of The Westchester's Super Duper Mini-chef program

June 17, 2010 - What could be more fun for kids than decorating cupcakes? Eating them! Especially, if those cupcakes are The Ritz Carlton, Westchester's new RC Crème de la Crème cupcakes.

On Saturday, June 19 from 12 to 2 p.m. Ritz-Carlton, Westchester Pastry Chef Erin Krupke will work with children as part Super Duper Mini Chefs, a free culinary event for kids at The Westchester in White Plains. Kids will each receive six miniature RC cupcakes and Chef Erin will help them to design their own signature cupcakes from a toppings bar of candy and special flavored icings. The event is free and open to kids of all ages and their parents.

Hosted by the Simon Kidgits Club and sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, Super Duper Mini Chefs combines demonstrations with hands-on activities that encourage kids to have fun and get creative while learning about food safety, preparation and manners.

“We are excited about partnering with The Westchester to provide fun activities for youngsters in the community,'' said Jacqueline Sanders, General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton, Westchester. “Kids will love eating our Crème de la Crème cupcakes even more than decorating them. And the best part is that their parents will love them too!”

The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester introduced Crème de la Crème signature cupcakes this spring. Rich and buttery cake topped with velvety smooth frosting, these sinfully sweet cupcakes are fast becoming Westchester's most sought after treats. Enjoy these signature RC cupcakes in the hotel's Lobby Lounge or take them home for tea, dessert or anytime.

“We are delighted to have The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester participate in the Super Duper Mini Chefs event at The Westchester,” said Paula Kelliher, area director of mall marketing for The Westchester and The Galleria at White Plains. “This event is fun for pint-sized chefs and parents too, who can enjoy an entertaining afternoon and quality time with their family.”

During the event, pint-sized chefs can pick up a food-friendly activity sheet provided by A Kid's Life!, which encourages learning, discovery and self esteem through games, music and other activities available in an ad-free and secure online environment.

Chef Krupke said children have good instincts when it comes to food because they know what they like. “Having fun with food is what it is all about for them, and it's not a bad philosophy,” said she said.

The Super Duper Mini Chefs is one of several programs and events held throughout the year at The Westchester for members of Simon Kidgits Club, which focuses on health, wellness, education, safety and entertainment for children ages three through eight. Other Simon Kidgits Club activities to be hosted at The Westchester in the coming months include Safe Summer and Back-to-School.
