Makena Beach & Golf Resort Has New Ownership
Makena, Maui, HI - June 1, 2010 - Makena Beach & Golf Resort was purchased by lender Wells Fargo Bank on Friday, the lender which has been responsible for overseeing the resort since Sept. 2009.
“We look forward to a long-term relationship with the new ownership,” said Kelly Lewis, general manager of Makena Beach & Golf Resort. “We are happy to continue what has proven to be a strong and productive partnership, and are moving forward with the implementation of a variety of exciting new projects at this beautiful one-of-a-kind property.”
The resort's new initiatives include Zen-Zen Restaurant Pacifica, the Makena Ranch, the Makena Kai Day Spa, and the Makena Luau, as well as the opening of a new event space, The Makena Vista.
Benchmark Hospitality International was appointed as the management company for the resort on Sept. 8, 2009. Benchmark also operates Turtle Bay Resort, the landmark property on Oahu's North Shore.
“Benchmark is very pleased to have two resorts in Hawaii and has already experienced great synergy between these special resort properties,” stated Bob Boyle, vice president and regional director of operations for Benchmark Hospitality, who oversees the property in addition to Turtle Bay Resort. “Turtle Bay has experienced especially strong occupancy during the past year, while Makena Beach & Golf Resort continues to show improvement.”
The beachfront resort features two 18-hole golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.; a golf clubhouse and pro shop; the Makena Tennis Club; a cafe, lounge and several restaurants; two pools; and several retail establishments.
Makena Beach & Golf Resort is situated on 1,800 acres of the southern shore of Maui in the Makena district of the island. The property offers 310 guestrooms and suites, each featuring private lanais, and commands sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, as well as vistas of Maui's diverse landscape and the 10,000-foot Mt. Haleakala.
The resort also features championship golf on the acclaimed Makena Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones, Jr., 18-hole course that runs along the Pacific coastline, adjacent to the hotel. With stunning views from nearly every hole, the course is renowned for its ancient Hawaiian rock walls, natural gullies and stream beds, which were incorporated into the course's design.
