The Hotel at Auburn University Presents Newest Addition to Downtown

The Terrace Room will be Downtown Auburn's Only Indoor/Outdoor Venue for Weddings, Groups and Corporate Events

AUBURN, AL- May 11, 2010 - The Hotel at Auburn University is pleased to announce the latest addition to its already expansive event offerings. Opening on June 12, 2010, the Terrace Room will be downtown Auburn's only indoor/outdoor venue for special gatherings. Three existing meeting rooms will be remodeled and reconfigured to create a pool-side terrace that is adjacent to a Junior Ballroom. Perfect for hosting weddings, group and corporate events, the Terrace Room will accommodate up to 300 people.

“We are very excited to be able to offer such a unique new venue to the city of Auburn,” said Hans van der Reijden, Managing Director of The Hotel at Auburn University. “The design of the Terrace Room was selected from entries submitted into a competition by the students and faculty of the College of Human Sciences Interior Design Program at Auburn University. The winning team's ideas and drawings have allowed us are to create a one-of-a-kind upscale space that exudes sophistication.”

The newly renovated Terrace Room will feature a series of French Doors that lead to the stone terrace overlooking the historic Auburn University Campus. Intricately designed millwork entries and multi-leveled coffered ceilings create an upscale look. Crisp, white mouldings throughout provide contrast with the rich palette of the room. These elements, along with over-scaled patterned wall coverings and grand framed mirrors, achieve the transitional styling of the space by taking guests from indoors to outside. Lush wool carpets in hues of gold and blue invoke a warm and inviting feeling. Lavish silk draperies in a rich caramel color frame large windows that will fill the space with natural light. The exterior patio overlooks the pool and is surrounded by lush greenery and an organic herb garden featuring a beautiful flowing fountain that provides a cozy ambiance. Fire pits will create drama with a soft illuminating glow for evening events.

Guests who book the Terrace Room may choose from an array of creative food and beverage options prepared by new Executive Chef Andrew Litherland. An award-winning chef with a world-class background, Chef Litherland formerly served as the executive chef of The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta. Originally from New Zealand, he has worked with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company for more than 14 years. Since he has worked all over the world, Chef Litherland's style of cooking encompasses a wide variety of tastes. From Italian and American to Arabic and Japanese, he brings with him a well-rounded culinary palate. Chef Litherland is excited to showcase his new hors d'oeuvres and reception menus and will work with groups to create a meal that is both memorable and delicious.

Conveniently located inside The Hotel at Auburn University, the Terrace Room is the ideal event venue because guests can take the elevator home at the end of the evening and will not have to drive from a reception to their hotel. Two hundred and thirty-six recently renovated guest rooms and nine luxury suites offer guests the ultimate in comfort.
