Clift Celebrates Five Years in San Francisco

. October 14, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 4, 2006. Last night, Clift opened its doors to more than 700 guests to celebrate five years of success in San Francisco. Mayor Gavin Newsom was among those in attendance to mark the anniversary.

Clift is part of Morgans Hotel Group, Co., a fully integrated hospitality company that operates boutique hotels in gateway cities under well-known brands such as Delano, Mondrian and Hudson. When Clift opened in 2001, Morgans Hotel Group created a hotel so unconventionally elegant and sophisticated that it launched a new paradigm in the San Francisco hospitality industry -- a modern luxurious boutique hotel, with an edge designed by the world-famous, Philippe Starck.

"With Clift, we broke the rulebook of San Francisco hotels", said Ed Scheetz, CEO, Morgans Hotel Group. "Since its introduction, we've seen many other large chain hotels try to imitate our offering. We are happy to be celebrating Clift's success tonight. Clift represents all of the things our company has become known for: ground-breaking design, ground-breaking service and completely unique nightlife experiences."

Since its opening in 2001, Clift has become famous not only for its friendly and attentive staff, world-class amenities and gracious accommodations, but also for its vibrant eating and drinking scene. The highly acclaimed Asia de Cuba, now renowned for its innovative Asian-Latin cuisine, is served in an atmosphere of unabashed glamour, while the famous and historic Redwood Room is an exceptionally elegant and modern space. A cherished San Francisco landmark, the Redwood Room continues to raise the standard for San Francisco nightlife. Both spots are destinations unto themselves -- catering to the city's tastemakers.

"What makes Clift distinctive is how it brings together differing points of view -- a cornerstone of our philosophy," said Tim Miller, Chief Branding Officer, Morgans Hotel Group. "Last night's turnout showed that Clift still holds a unique cache in the San Francisco market. We were pleased to host such a large, influential and diverse crowd to celebrate their support over the last five years."

Clift is among a growing offering of West Coast destinations for Morgans Hotel Group. The company owns the world renowned Mondrian in Los Angeles, home of the infamous Skybar. Earlier this year, the Company announced its entry into Scottsdale with the acquisition of the new Mondrian, slated for re- opening in December of 2006. Morgans Hotel Group previously announced its partnership with Boyd Gaming in the development of Echelon, a project that is anchored by two prominent MHG brands, Delano and Mondrian. Last month, the company reported the acquisition of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, further demonstrating its commitment to Las Vegas.
