A Gem at the San Diego Historical Society

SAN DIEGO, CA< DWecember 16, 2006. Did you know that the Hope Diamond is one of the most visited museum objects in the world? On January 20, the Costume Council, an auxiliary group of the San Diego Historical Society, will host a spectacular event at Balboa Park's Museum of San Diego History to celebrate the world-renowned Hope Diamond. The Costume Council will welcome Dr. Richard Kurin, Director of the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, as he presents the story of the Diamond. Dr. Kurin will also discuss his acclaimed book, The Legendary History of a Cursed Gem. An autographed copy of the book will be available for purchase. Guests of the evening will be treated to a display of stunning blue designer dresses on loan from prominent society women of San Diego. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the exclusive event fundraiser, a drawing for a beautiful sapphire and diamond pendant necklace designed and donated by Stuart Benjamin Jewelers worth $3,000. True to the theme, special martinis named "Diamond Blue," courtesy of Moet Hennessey USA, will be served at this star-studded evening of elegance.
